Hum. (doesn't start very good)I'm was awaiting a version for a while, but I have been very disappointed by this one. Maybe it was only a scheme for a Spitfire Mk Vb, or a Spit Vb saved as a Ia. It is not a Spit Ia for at least 2 reasons: a) propeller should have only 2 blades (and it was wood) instead of 3. I admit later version might have 3 blades. Making it very different from Mark Vb is cool. b) it shouldn't be able to fly on the back for a very long time due to lack of injectors in the engine. Maybe a OPP limitation? SDOE at present can't model the fuel injectors.

Spitfire MKI: Initial version, 450 ordered with 1,030hp Merlin II, two-blade fixed pitch propeller and four 0.303in Browning guns. Later MkIa with eight guns, bulged canopy and three-blade DH v-p propeller (all MkIs were retrofitted to MkIa standard).[This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 12-10-1999).] IP: Logged |

I think only very early MkI's had this 2-bladed wood prop with fixed pitch. They also had a flatter canopy. I may be wrong but I think during BoB all spits had a 3-bladed Rotol prop. The paint scheme that shipped with the Ia did not look like a BoB camo, but hopefully Yardstick did a nice one. Did you notice also Tailside calls his bird "Spitfire Mk1a" instead of "Spitfire MkIa"? Yeah I know I'm picking nuts but I think it's incorrect. The inverted carburator problem has been discussed already, it is a game limitation. In fact it's a little disapointing, because in Warbirds this effect is modeled, as well as engine accelerating in dives and slowing down in climbs. Warbirds also has "RPM latency", that is if you put the throttle flat out it takes a few seconds for the engine to reach maximum RPM. ------------------ Pachy's SDOE stuff perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet

spank well i hope all those things are in sdop as well as engine over heat and damage that includes leaking fuel, oil and cooling fluid and misfireing

I have a nice Spit MkIa skin available for download off Tailslide's site. It's right next to the Spit download.IP: Logged |

My apologies to Yardstick. I misread Mk I and Mk Ia. I'm sorry. This is a nice job. What about a Mk I version for dogfights earlier to BoB, such as French Campaign? In fact the 2 bladed version stopped with release of Spitfire Mk I #79. Sometimes, there are things missing in SDOE (or OPP) that make me nuts... STef ------------------ STef_EAF329

Just make sure to use extractor/builder not OPStudio to make the changes, saving from the current OPStudio causes a problem. Also, email me if you are going to do this. Last time we both made changes at the same time and there was no easy way to merge the changes. TS ------------------ ________________________ TS Aircombat

Now that I have needed tools, I will give this 2 bladed/flat canopy Spitfire Mk I a try.Question: - is it possible to lower resistance of materials in OPP, as the Mk I wasn't armored at all. Unless Tailslide already took this in count Note: my sources indicate there were already 8 guns mounted on it. ------------------ STef_EAF329

I don't think armour is doable in SDOE at the moment. The way the sim does collision detection makes the pilots almost impossible to kill even without armour. I came across this note, sorry I don't have a source for it: Armor Protection Early Spits needed very powerful engines because of the weight of the armor that was added to the spits. The MK 1s also had bullet proof windscreens. Also here is some good shots of an unrepainted Mk1 with the old style canopy at http://www.hotel.wineasy.se/ipms However, it has the metal propeller not the wood propeller.
