Wow! All these new planes look fantastic!! I once again am getting involved with OpenPlane. I really love this sim and am toying with various ideas for new projects. You know, this sim has grabbed my attention from day one. It seems after a longish break from this prog, the other sims/games out there aren't as fun. SDOE keeps reeling me back in with it's continual "this is new, check it out!" atmosphere. No other sim can touch it.

So needless to say, I'm happy to be flying SDOE again and will drop in online now and then. Not often though because I'm eager to create new things. All of the new planes I'm seeing here now are really inspiring!

Great job to all involved!

One more thing. The folding wings and sliding canopies are fantastic! Is there a small helpfile or tutorial somewhere that explains how to do these feats? And about the carrier with the hook and cables, I hope there will be a nice "how to" for that as well. I'm gonna dive into this stuff bigtime now. Thanks for any help.

Hello Pete,

Razor747 post this on 11/08/99 :
==========================================

Add this to your next plane! pics

Folding Wings. I added two more keys that will activate the DOF. I used the I & U keys. This way, we can have more things move seperatly from one another. Adding these two keys, opens up lots of things that we were not able to do before.
-----------------------------------
Razer747,
Do you think that same principle can apply to multi-position flaps?
Greg 'Kopper' Kopchuk Fortunae Nihil (Nothing to Chance)
-----------------------------------------
I am not sure about the flaps. The DOF will go from it's min to max without stopping. If I could figure out how to make it stop halfway, then it would work.
Thanks,
Razor747
--------------------------------------------
Cool Razor! Could you post that plane so I can see how you mapped the keys? Or just post the .asc file is fine...

Are the only changes on the DOF? Thanks!
Sv
-----------------------------------------
Here is the keyboard.inp file: http://www.geocities.com/SoHo/Village/2073/Keyboard.zip
Copy and paste this into the DOF proplist you want to activate by the "U" key.

(dofID 'leftGearRotate dofOsc (oscName 'leftGearRotate oscRuntime 2 oscDelayEnd 1 oscParent 'Ju88A4 oscCmd 'cmdGearsToggle 'cmdRunReverse 'cmdGearsUp 'cmdRunForward 'cmdGearsDown 'cmdRunBackward oscEndHidden)

Copy and paste this into the DOF proplist you want to activate by the "I" key.

(dofID 'leftGearRotate dofOsc (oscName 'leftGearRotate oscRuntime 2 oscDelayEnd 1 oscParent 'Ju88A4 oscCmd 'cmdGeardToggle 'cmdRunReverse 'cmdGeardUp 'cmdRunForward 'cmdGeardDown 'cmdRunBackward oscEndHidden)

Just replace the oscParent 'Ju88A4, with the plane you are working on.

Thanks,
Razor747
-------------------------------------
Good idea Razor! Now we can do the same to open the canopy.

---------------------------------------
Razor747, This is great. You guys are too much. You are turning this into a whole new game... Again
Raider
-----------------------------------------
Solves that little problem I was going to eventually face with the F4F. One key folds and unfolds the wings, right? The other one would be good for lowering a tail hook.
Whirlwind
---------------------------------------
Yes, one key unfolds and folds the wings. The other one is still free. I think I can make more, but I need to know which keys are not used by the game.

Thanks,

Razor747

Razer:
That is too cool! Its really exciting to know that we can add some additional functions to our planes!
Thanks for the great pics and the keymap.
Ronin
-----------------------------------
Wow, that looks really great. We could use the other key for vertical take-off when turning round the engines right?

So, anyone started making Seafire's yet?

You can't fool me, you just want to win that prize money!

Here's what keys my F-14 are using...

Q - Canopy
W - Swing wings
R - Tailhook
C - Lowers nose for catapult hookup with launch bar/cat
shift s - airbrakes

There are MANY key combos guys. SDOE doesn't really use that many keys. Have fun!

Pete:

In November '99 when this whole user created DOF thing got rolling some of us spent some time to try to create an OPPs standard for SDOE key commands in order to reduce compatability problems between user created AC. Looking at your list all but the...

"C - Lowers nose for catapult hookup with launch bar/cat" command were included in this effort.

Here's the address for the OPPs Key Command file package...
http://www.fshangar.com/area51/key991116.zip

This file has a list of the over 170 of the currently 'reserved' key commands, a printable key command card and an ini file that supports the currently reserved keys.

Please, check out this file and see what you think. Also, I'd like to add your new command to "lower the nose" (...and maybe drop the body on the Galaxy project?)

1) Check the command card to see which keys are still available.
2) Send me an e-mail with your key selection.
3) I'll add your new key selection and re-issue the Key Command Standard.

Thanks! Your doing some cool work!

Ronin
