Great Nuum! I was having trouble determining the correct size - plus I have notices that it verries widely from one SE5a to another...Also, if you find a better intrument oanel picture send it to me - a diagram would be best. I did get the ones you sent, but I am still having trouble finding out what needs to be where. How does the throttle control work? Where is it? I want to animate it along with the control stick ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

You know, a friend of mine has been trying to get me into WWI AC, but I've just never really connected with that world, eventhough I admire the planes greatly. After taking some of these planes for a spin, I have to say I'm hooked. The dogfights at those speeds are VERY interesting and the planes are almost too beautiful to shoot at! In one fight, however, I saw an SE above and ahead of me get blown up. Smoking debris was showering down on my plane... beautiful! I should have taken a screenshot.[This message has been edited by JT (edited 12-03-1999).] IP: Logged |

Wow! That's the finest looking earlybird I've ever seen in a sim! And I envy you your energy! Quite enough to just learn and do it - but to document it is awesome stuff. ..As its kicking my butt, I'm looking forward to reading how you build a pit. -rt mikeIP: Logged |

Well roadtoad, if we really want a good cockpit we need join JT's freind in trying push WWI on JT! He is the cockpit master!I'll even find all the info and screenshots you could ask for! (wink, wink ...) Well at least you wouldn't have to worry about that complicated reflecting canopy Actually roadtoad, I started the SE5a just to learn as a beginner and document the process so that others could learn... I am suprised to find out how do-able it is, thanks to Hippie's builder/extarctor and Bryan's kick-ass OpenPlane Studio - you want to talk about energy? OpenPlane Studio is very user friendly AND has great documentation of its own! It is truly a first class application... ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

Got home from a long business trip and read some posts about your SE5a and thought I'd give it a whirl. I spent a good portion of Saturday just WWI dogfighting between the SE5a and the Fokker-and I LOVED IT! Everything everyone's been saying is true. Dogfighting at those speeds and with that performance is sooo fun. I never thought I'd be interested in WWI airplanes-boy was I wrong. The graphics in SDOE just make this WWI thing happen for me. Thanks SV for the great job. What a beauty that airplane is.AQ IP: Logged |

SV, I just flew a few missions with the SE5a and loved it. My complements - keep up the good work. I particularly enjoyed sight seeing low and slow, something you can't do in my heavy metal. Roll on the WWI planepack.Just a pointer on the sound files I noticed they are 22Hz stereo. You could cut that down to 8Hz mono without degrading the sound too much - 8Hz mono is what Meatwater used and I did for my 109 sounds. Worth bearing in mind for a future planepack. IP: Logged |

Thanks for the sound tip Yardstick.I stole the sounds from red baron 3D. I plan on making a trip to Rhinebeck and sample my own sounds. I think they have different planes there over time - I need to go when I can get a good in-line sound. I could get a pretty good one form the Fokker DVII. The Camel is always there I think, as well as the Fokker DR1. How much does sound file size affect sim performance? Is it a memory thing, a file size thing, or a FPS thing? Thanks! ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

Hi SV,I would have thought that the size of the file will have some effect on game speed (simply put the larger the file, the larger the demands placed on the CPU). I'm sure the size impacts on RAM throughput as well. As far as the impact on FPS is concerned I'm not sure. You may have problems getting your enginerun samples to sound right in SDOE. The game engine modulates the frequency of the sound to represent the rpm of the engine. I have tried to insert genuine samples of the 109 engine into the game and it ends up sounding like a lawnmower on speed. I suspect that the sample is modulated up and down from mid throttle position. Therefore if the engine sounds correct at 50% rpm it will sound high pitched at 100% and way too slow at 5%. You may have to experiment with this. I haven't got the sound editing software to do this. So I went with Meatwater's Spit enginerun.wav file in the end for the bf109 (the engine start and end samples are genuine though). BTW. I have a nice clean recording of the start-up, run and shut-down sequence for the Brisfit if youare interested. [This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 12-08-1999).] IP: Logged |

I have a Roland Vs-1680 multi-track 24 bit digital workstation. I can take it on location and record sounds of high quality. I can re-sample this sound for any frequency. I can also do fine EQ adjustments, multi-band compression, and harmonic enhancement, etc.I am used to recording music though, I am not a sound effects guy. I would like to fool with it - I noticed that even the Red Baron 3D sounds seemed to low, maybe I will increase the sample frequency... One thing that bothers me most about the engine sound in SDOE is the RPM setting. It seems that the RPM is only based on throttle setting, not prop speed. In other words if you dive whith throttle in idle, the prop will not windmill. Anyone else notice this? ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

SV the Brisfit sounds are a track on a CD of Aero sound I have. I can record it as an MP3 file and send it to you.If you have the kit, maybe you could try and do something with the DB605 (bf109G) recording I have. It's an external recording but with a little work I'm sure you could get it sounding about right. I agree about the Se5a sounds (amplitude rather than frequency though). I used a simple wave editor to boost the volume by 50% after I had converted it to 8Hz mono. [This message has been edited by Yardstick (edited 12-08-1999).] IP: Logged |
