The easiest way to do this now is like this:In OpenPlane Studio: copy a small LOD and paste it under the parent object that you want the new LOD to be a child of. Basicaly, click on the LOD to copy, select "copy" from the menu, then click on the future parent object in the left objects window, then choose "paste" from the menu.
Now the new name will be the same as the old mane with a "1" on the end. Click on the "names" tab at the left to bring up the names - now double click on your new LOD's name and change that name to the new object's name. Now re-load the sm file in OPS and you will see the new part with the new name.
Now use Hippie's extractor to build the asc file from that new sm file. Find out the number for the new LOD by viewing the html file. NOw you can edit that LOD in AC3D, rebuild the SM file with Hippie's builder, then open the new sm file in OPS and position your new part.
It sounds like allot, but it goes pretty fast. I can go back and forth through this process and add like 4 or 5 new objets in an hour if I am lucky
