I want to be able to change all my paint schemes depending on what terrain I am playing on.. for example if I'm flying an africa mission, I want to alt-tab back to windows click a button and have all my planes with desert camo.

Is there something out to do this?

Heya,

I would like this too. I dont use paintboy or camo comander so I'm not sure if they can do this. Spyder might be able to add this to a new version of SDOE control. I'll shoot him a mail and ask.

I believe the skins load up when SDOE does...... Not sure how you would change it..... Maybe if you put a reference to it in the actual mission.

That wouldn't be too hard. Just tell FS to load up all the skins, and let the mission pick one or more..... Can this be done MH?

You can alt tab back to windows and use Ground Crew to do this. You will have to do the aircraft individually but it takes seconds.

The cheaters way could be to put them all in zip files like africaskins.zip and make shortcuts on the desktop to unzip them to the right directory..

I think Ground Crew is the shortest way now. Especially if you don't have too many skins in it. About 2 or 3 for each plane so you can find things easy.

nope putting all your africa skins in one zip with all of them pointing to the right plane is the fastest way

just double click on the zip and boom there all in

one step

The way I sort of do it is with multiple texture directories, ie: texturesD(esert) texturesE(urope) texturesR(ussia) and the one being used, textures.

So I just rename them to change the textures. Takes a while though.

Probably a batch file could make it a one button affair to rename the directories?

Katana actually i never use alt tab

just atl enter to put the chat lobby into a window and then double click on your zip

u could make it a self extracting zip and it would just drop all the skins into there proper folders

If the above examples are fast enough then I'll leave it, but this is what I'm planning. The random skins should make it a nice variety:

Very nice!

Well, I had thought if this a long time ago, I have a solution, but I think many of you wont like it for obvious resaons. Why not just have a differrent plane for each theatre? Well, the same plane but with a different name, For example.. take the Ju88

you could havea Ju88 named Ju88Africa, Ju88Dover, and Ju88 Rhineland. In each folder you keep the respective textures, and in each mission, you use the right Aircraft for the corresponding terrian.

IMO this is the simplest most conveniant solution, of course it does take a little more to set up and have everyone use, esp when it comes to online play.

I'll be looking forward to reading replies on this idea.

The way I'm doing it is this:
The util makes the folders shown in the util, you place your favourite skins into the respective folders and when you select the theatre they get copied into your \media\aircraft\plane\textures folder.
Of course this means only one aircraft skin of that type per folder but I figured everyone uses a particular skin all the time anyway.
That would give you a choice of 4 different B17 skins per online session for instance.
The random option will just grab any one of those theatres and use it, so it becomes a lucky dip.

Spyder,

What happens if a particular folder is empty and your utility doesn't find a skin in it?

BTW this is a great idea!

If no files are in the folders nothing will happen, it will look for the files and only copy what are there to your aircraft folder.
All the files will be standard names that the current aircraft use ie. FW190A2.tif.
You won't be able to use 2 instances of 190 skins in the Africa folder for example.

cheers

Hoo hah, worked progressed quicker than expected and it seems functional on the african theatre right now.
I have only gone with single file copying of the planes to their respective texture folders, this means planes such as the B17 with multiple texture parts won't get copied over as yet, just the B17g2tif for example.
I'll add this later if it's not useful enough but for now I want to get it running and work on it from there.
Another problem, sort of, is I'm allowing only for the current planes tifs as we know them, future planes will of course not be part of the swapping process until a newer update which incorporates the file names.
Eventually an option to drag over and unzip textures into their respective theatres will/might be incorporated as well. Just keeping you informed.
Possible release, a couple of days.
Cheers

Zoycite is testing the util for bugs at the moment.
I have everything working except for the random tif section. Basically it will grab a tif for each plane from any one of the four theatres randomly. The choices therefore are for 4 different schemes for each plane when you use the util, should be enough for some variety, I can add more later if this isn't enough.
I need to write the instructions out more clearly also, it all seems obvious to me but I can see people wondering how to set it up correctly.
Cheers
