I updated the Mk1a to version 1.1 already. Here's the changes. Available on my site, link at bottom. Spitfire Mk1a Version 1.1 ---------------------------- - Moved gun ports to correct positions - Reset convergence for new gun positions now outside guns converge at 350 yards, next pair in converge at 325 yards, next pair in converge at 300 yards, next pair in converge at 275 yards
- broke up gun selection into two sets of four so you can have one set on gun trigger another set on cannon trigger or fire all by using the 3 key to select all guns. TS ------------------ ________________________ TS Aircombat

That's great work Tail. Just one point, is it possible to set the Spit 1a to use Woodpanel's cockpit. By using the Spit V cockpit sm file, I can use get it to use the correct textures but the instruments won't work.IP: Logged |

Yes you just need to extract the cockpit, change the line that says: `cannon1 `cannon2 `gun1 `gun2 `gun3 `gun4 to `gun1 `gun2 `gun3 `gun4 `gun5 `gun6 `gun7 `gun8 And change any references from Spitfire to Spitfire1a. If anyone does this maybe send it to woodpanel so he can add it to his cockpit downloads. TS

Yes, please do. If I don't get anything in the next few days, I will convert it myself and make it available on my site.Hey, TS... I haven't checked your plane out yet because I'm in almost exclusively in Windows NT when I'm working on something... anyway, my question... is your MK1a a modification of the Spit IX or the default Spit? It's a modification of the 5.3 MkV.. the 3d model of the V matches the 1b so thats what I used. I reduced the weight, adjusted the CG, adjusted engine power. It's in the readme.txt file included with the zip. It still needs thorough testing and adjustment but it should be pretty close as it's based on the MkV I have a list of weights for all the pieces of the Mk1 that I can use to get the weight distribution exactly correct. Will get to this eventually but probably not in time for the next plane pack. In this case we really DO know how much the tire or wing weighs ! TS

Tail are u saying u do have the list of parts with all the weights?Insane maybe u should make that avalible so we can use it in other fighters if the fighter someone is working is heavier they can add a bit to each part or add if they know certain parts where more heavy and such anyway it could be cool IP: Logged |

I've just spent 4 hours doing a BoB scheme, if anybody is interested I will mail to the Hangar. It may be a little too clean for you Tail but most BoB Spitfires didn't last long enough to get that 'beaten up' look IP: Logged |

Here comes that whiner *AGAIN* Sorry Tailside but i think the guns are STILL not correctly positioned. Let's see: Left is your version 1.1, middle is Yardstick's model. Notice that inner gun should be right outside the gear bay (and not inside, where would the gear retract into?) On the right is the modified version that was posted on the other thread http://www.fightersquadron.com/ubb/Forum13/HTML/000013.html You are free not to use it, and to ignore your fellow pilots' suggestions, after all Last question, shouldn't it be named "MkIa", instead of "Mk1a"? -OK, I'll stop here. Yardstick: please post! Too bad we cannot have this asymetrical B/W camo, it rocks! ------------------ Pachy's SDOE stuff perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet

hehe Pachy You are picky aren't ya? lol its cool though i'm sure tail will tweak them load the model pic as a back ground for OPS tail that could help it looks like the 2 middle ones should be just a tad closer together can one of u SKin wizards put some firing ports on the skin too please? I would but i suck with skins

Spanky: i cheated, the skin was painted first and the guns positioned later (how could we do that without Openplane studio? Once again big thanks to Bryan!)Do you think I am picky? Sure, I could be ridiculous discussing on some spit sub-variant details, but the guys who did the 109 did set the standard so high (in attention to every detail, i mean) I'm sure I am not alone here... ------------------ Pachy's SDOE stuff perso.club-internet.fr/gledimet

Ah ok I was going by my photo the angle made them look farther in. No offense Pachy but your time might be better spent not working on a plane at the same time as someone else or at least drop an email? We've got two versions that are out of sync now. Redback, I can take off ok and so can the AI email me the mission and I'll have a look. The rudder travel is the same as the real spitfire IX, it's intentional. Ok Pachy here you go.. I was going to update my skin with scorch marks and gun ports for Spanky so I sized your model picture to the same size as a photoshop layer and had it ghosted over top of my skin. I put the gunports in exactly the same spot. While I was in there I undid some of the "beaten" look on the skin per Yardstick's comments mostly getting rid of those annoying symmetrical paint chips at the wing root. (sorry Yardstick it's not totally "new car" look). On the plus side I have some nifty layers for adding scorch marks to clean skins. Only problem is I was partway done assigning component weights so it flies like a dog. Anyways heres a look. If anyone can tell me how to fix the texture mapping on the bottom I would love to know ! The EAF and JV44 start on another war next thursday, and it would be a nice idea to reproduce a 1940 BoB mission. But are these planes (spit Ia and the Bf109E) ready for serious war missions yet? Or are these still kind of bèta's? Could they go in a PP5.3 like we can download them now?------------------ Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's a Flying Poodle ! IP: Logged |

Hi poodle I think the Spit MkI will be ready but the Emil is not quite on the mark (for a start the wing cannons have about 180 rounds per gun). We may surprise you though Yardstick JV44 (and actually rather interested in FM just crap at doing it) IP: Logged |

Ok I discovered OPS was adding 1000lbs fuel capacity to all my planes so I went back and redid them all. I also completed updating the MkIa from an exhaustive list of component weights for the Spitfire Ia. One catch.. the propeller blades are 350 pounds total and the propeller hub is 30 pounds now. It takes about 10 seconds to get the prop up to speed will this be annoying ? Fudging the weight on the prop may cause some changes to the performance of the plane in respect to energy retention, I'm not sure. TS ------------------ ________________________ TS Aircombat

Tailslide the extra weight added to the prop and and the hub will decrease performance. Kinda bad but I wouldn't say dramtically. It's like a drive shaft on a car, the energy generated by the engine "horsepower" will lose potential as it travels down the drive shaft to the drive train. Then you have the weight of the wheels to turn and the weight of the car to pull. Lots of energy loss. So when you got 380 pounds of weight hanging off the end of the aircraft, the engine has to work harder just to turn the propellor, which in real life thats why if you kept it wide open for too long, too much strain on the engine and eventally oil pressure loss and overheat and lots of very bad things =). Done with the science lesson and now I'm out!FarmerJoe IP: Logged |

Thats what you would think but there is no discernable difference in top speed or climb rate. I guess the tough part is building up the momentum. After that SDOE uses a constant RPM. So... should I leave it like this? TS ------------------ ________________________ TS Aircombat

Well Tail, if it took that long in real life for the girl to build up speed then YEAH! Of course though you and I both know that in combat you can't really be losing speed and then having a long time to build it back up again...Am I right or am I right?take'd easy now FarmerJoe IP: Logged |
