Ok... I'm down to where I need to start making some choices. Of these variants, which do you think would be the most relevant....

(a) P-47D-25 (1944)
(b) P-47D-28 (1945)
(c) P-47D-30 (1945)

This next question is mostly for the FM and technical guys. I was talking with Roadtoad Mike about the tail fillet that was added on later models. According to my books, when the razorback spine was replaced with the bubble top canopy it produced a fluttering in the tail section. This fluttering even caused the loss of the entire tail assembly in some cases. To combat this, the D-40 was designed with a dorsal tail fillet. Earlier planes were retrofitted with this fillet. I want to make a filleted version and a non-filleted version.
So, my question is... can this tail fluttering and structural failure be modelled?

Go with the one you can get the most info. on, especially FM. If it's a toss-up go with the one most used in the ground attack role. With the P-51 and P-38 we already have two good escort fighters.

How about the -25. It would be closer to what a B or C model would be in case someone
wanted to model the earlier razorback versions. That way we could get more aircraft
in less time.

I agree. Go with the model you have the most info on..... I think the Jug will be used mostly as a earth mover, so it should probably be configured that way.............. Just my opinion. Your the one doing all the hard work, so you do what ever you want man!
I'll back ya up!

I don't know much about the p47 except it was a good plane so:

I would take these 3 things into account

1 What one do you want to be flying as soon as possible?

2 What one do you have the most info on?

3 What one was the most used?

If they all happened to be the same one well great

i'm going through this trying to pick which p40 to do

i'm going to go with the one i want to do and i have alot of info

hehee i like them all so it will be the one with the most info prob

can't wait to fly it man

are u putting in the advanced stuff like the moving canopy and stuff??

we need a screen shot send one to razer so it can be progress of the week shot

I will probably make 2 cockpits... a realistic one and a simplified one. The realistic will have an operable canopy, moving stick, moving rudder pedals, moving throttle lever, moving gear lever, and a functioning landing gear indicator. I'm also considering the possibility of bullet damage/blood spatters to the canopy glass.

>can't wait to fly it man

I can't wait either

>we need a screen shot send one to razer so it can be progress of the week shot

Ok... I've been really lazy in that regard, but I'll do it sometime this week.

WW2 fighters has quite a goary cockpit splatter if you have the gore mode turned on ; )

I'd be happy with any p47 but if I had a choice it would be the one that was most produced and saw the most action in real life.

My stupidity will shine through crystalline clear on this one, but I'd like the version that had the neat propeller that all the '47 guys were so hot on.

Whatever version the 63rd Squadron 56th Figher Group was using. They were the only fighter outfit in the 8th Air Force to keep their 47's after the introduction of the '51.

Hopefully this would be the version with the water injection and the fancy-dancy propeller that apparently added a lot of horsepower to the aircraft.

I think it would be exciting to have an Allied zoom-n-boomer that dives like a scalded dog, has a boatload of horsepower, and 8 .50cal guns. It actually works real well against AI 190's in EAW.

It will be REAL interesting to see how it works against human pilots in SDOE.

Oh, reading further, the 56th was apparently called "The Wolfpack," and started doing some greenish cammo type paint jobs other than the standard OD green or the silver.

I have a picture of "Hairless Joe" flown by David C. Shilling (22.5 air-to-air kills, 10.5 ground kills) that looks really cool. Red rind around the front of the engine cowling, a picture of Hairless Joe on it, OD green and washed-out green cammo paint with invasion stripes on lower portion of rear fuselage and a yellow rudder. It is so ugly that it's beautiful.

I don't know me arse from a hole in the ground when it comes to 3D paint programs, but it you need pictures or anything like that, feel free to e-mail me.

Hope you don't mind me throwing in my two cents. It's times like this I wish I wasn't such a worthless slug when it comes to the plane building/designing process. I become one of those worthless jerks who has lots of opinions, and absolutley no skills whatsoever. Just what this world needs more of, eh? (Jeez, I've been spending too much time talking to Canadians, eh?)

Thanks,

A nice cross section of 56th paint schemes in on my 'to do' list. I'm a 56th FG nut (have numerous books, 61st FS A2 jacket etc) so I'm really looking forward to this little project.

That's a Razorback. I'm doing bubble tops only. Roadtoad Mike might be interested, though since he's doing a mighty nice Razorback right now.
