Here's the readme so you can see what I've done. Not a whole lot, but I thought the changes/additions were warranted... and hey, it's my first project here, cut me some slack =) I thought it was something useful I could do even though I don't have a lot of experience with OpenPlane or anything. I hope I don't get sued or anything since the Fokker is copyright by Parsoft. MH? Just so you know, I'm a full-time college student, so I don't have a lot of money ;-)-=TheReaper=- =========================================== This is essentially the Fokker originally released by Parsoft, with a few minor changes. All I have done is modified the model so that there is now only one Dr1, rather than having two seperate planes, the red and the blue, each having its own .SM file, Training Missions, etc. The damaged Fokker model has also been updated accordingly. I have also updated the stats.bmp for the Hangar and added a description for the Fokker. The default skin is the red Fokker. The red or the blue skin can be installed just like any other skin, either using Ground Crew or manually. Or create your own skins! The following files need to be changed in order to create or edit a skin: FokkerDr1a.tif FokkerDr1aDmg.tif FokkerSideWall.tif FokkerWingTop.tif FokkerWingTopDmg.tif NOTE: The .TIFs will need to be uncompressed before they can be edited. Data9.par and data10.par are no longer needed. This plane installs just like any of the user-created aircraft. Extract all files to your Fighter Squadron directory and enable the "Use folder names" option. The following sources were used for specs and blatant "copy and paste" plagiarism. http://aeroweb.brooklyn.cuny.edu/aircraft/fokkdr1.html http://www.theaerodrome.com/aircraft/germany/fokker/dri.html
-=TheReaper=- The original Readme is included below. //******************************************* Fokker Dr1A Version 1.0 Last Updated 4/23/99
To use the Fokker in Fighter Squadron, follow these directions:
1) Unzip and place the contents into Media folder under your main Fighter Squadron folder. 3) The Fokker is now ready for use within Fighter Squadron. It is a German aircraft and will appear in the German training missions. It also appears in the Hangar and can be used with the mission editor. Note that you will see both red and blue versions available in the game.

Personally I'm not so fond of the idea. Now what's actually the difference? A lot of older missions who use the blue fokker sm file can't be used anymore. Also, the 2nd blue fokker has a very small sm file. I has a lot of links to the red one. The blue fokker won't work independently if I'm right. I made an orange dutch Fokker skin once (links to pics below) and used the blue Fokker as a base for making it independent. But it turned out you would still need the red one. But, what you could better do is just release the skin (which a lot of people don't know how to get it out of the par file) so people can download it (the red and blue one) and make his own. Even better if we added the 2 Fokkers to the PP. That way the data9 and data10 par file space would become free. http://home.wxs.nl/~poodle/FlyingPoodle/Xfiles/Javasea/FokkerDr1AOrange.JPG http://home.wxs.nl/~poodle/FlyingPoodle/Xfiles/Javasea/FokkerDr1AOrange2.JPG Cu, Poodle ------------------ Is it a bird? It's when I downloaded Sv's new Se5a release that I remembered I didn't have the Fokker. Then once I had it, I realized that the stats weren't listed, there are two different models for the two colors, etc. I can understand why they made two seperate models originally-for the OpenPlane demo they needed to have them for a red vs. blue battle. Now that we have another WWI plane though, and maybe more to come... well it just doesn't make sense to have it that way. Taking it out of the .par file and enabling skins makes it like all the user-created planes in SDOE, and makes it easier to manage your planes. I just modified the FokkerDr1A.sm (the red one) and the damaged one also, so anywhere it referred to "FokkerWingTopRed" or anything red, it was just "FokkerWingTop," for example. So now there is just one model (well, two including the damaged model) and you just replace the .TIFs to make a new skin. I wasn't really aware there were a whole lot of maps out there using the Fokker... and then the only conflict would be with the blue one. What does everybody think of having a seperate model for damage as with the Fokker? Is this a good idea for the other planes? Anyway, I'm sure some people will appreciate it. I sent it in to FSHangar but if it's not up by Monday I will put it up on my own server. Well, that's enough BS for now. -=TheReaper=-

I agree Reaper,We need a "real" Fokker Triplane that is stand-alone - none of this FokkerRed crap. Poodle, as we go forward making many WWI planes we will need to update the Foker FM to match specs so we can have fair fights. I expect we will see WWI PlanePacks in time. Are you working on WW1 stuff too Poodle? If so, maybe we need to officialize a WWI group in OPPs. That way we can make sure we are not stepping on other's work. How do you feel about this? So far I know there is myself, Nuum, ReaperMan - and you too? Anyone else out there making (or want to make) WWI stuff? Speak up here! My goal is to make SDOE the best on-line WWI sim! I want to focus on creating all of the most popular WW1 fighters, some observation planes/balloons, and new aerodromes. Personaly I will focus on model detail, FM meeting specs, and less importanly DM - though I think this can be fun Thanks to help from Nuum on texturing I took a HUGE step forward with my SE5a - fixed textures and normal, etc. Now I only need to learn how to create texture maps so I can put insignia on the planes. I have a work-around no, but ut requires a seperate LOD for each insignia heheh... I will upload my new SE5a soon! ------------------ -Sv =FC= WWI in SDOE!

This is great ReaperMan, I looked at the Fokker a while back and could not get the bugs out of it. Poodle, now we can make you a Dutch Fokker if you want to use the red one and the orange one at the same time. BTW you did a great job on it. This game engine should be great for WWI. Even better than (RB2) [This message has been edited by Raider (edited 11-26-1999).] IP: Logged |

Ok, I understand it a bit better now. I first wanted to make a separate plane out of my orange skinned Fokker so it could be placed under Holland as a new nation Lector made for me. But we had some troubles I and Raider couldn't solve. Now we can make a nice independant orange fokker out of it. And I like the separate damage model of the Fokker. The skins get all those bullet holes in them, and it looks better. Only I wished the bullet holes came earlier, and not only when you totally crashed it. And I'm not actually in the WW1 making business. I had an idea a long time ago to remake the big sea battle in the Javasea and me and some other squad mates helped with it. I first wanted to really make a zero, but without things like OPS at the time we just settled for a zero skin for the Fw. I also wanted to make a Fokker G1 (Lockhead based the P-38 on that aircraft) but instead I made a G1 skin out of the P-38 (the G1 has a rear gunner though, not very hard to make with OPS now). Then I needed some other planes too, and cause they had a lot of old equipment there in the Dutch Indies, I thought we'll let a squad fly Fokker Dr1's too. Ofcourse no opposition against Fw's, but they can bomb (which they wouldn't do after all, don't know why) the boats a bit. Then the big idea was to make as much as boats of the battle for SDOE. I first finished a "RNN De Ruyter" model for Nendo and then send it to Lector who was going to make the thing work in SDOE. That was half a year ago now, and it seems Lector is very late with delivery. Also other people wanted to make ships, and Bbird started to make the "RNN De Kortenaer". Which till this day still isn't finished. Ultimately, the whole project, which started out quite big, bled to death and when I later started on night over dover I haven't given it much attention since. Only it turns out the Dutch East-Indies Air Force mostly flew American planes, like the Buffalo. Me and my big "E stand for Europe" mouth... But I'm not really interested in making WW1 planes, sorry. My interest was more since the plane was a dutch build plane. BTW, My whole project was actually a Pacific project all along, so from now on I won't argue about what to make for SDOE, WW1, Europe or Pacific. Just do whatever you want to. We dutchies fought 2 wars (Europe and Pacific) and so did you guys. So if I could make my own Pacific theatre, why shouldn't you guys. And if someone's ever interested in making a Buffalo, let me know. But this reply is getting way too off topic now. Here's the Javasea project page I made at the time: http://home.wxs.nl/~poodle/FlyingPoodle/Xfiles/Javaseas.htm Cu, Poodle
