Mission over the Somme - AbbevilleFlying over the Somme yesterday a small flight of Dewoitine 520 from Groupe de Chasse III/4 intercepted some incoming Stukas on their way to bombing the oil refinery south west of Abbeville. The german bombers were attacked by the french fighters using both their 20mm cannons and their 7.5 m machine guns, causing heavy damages to the nazi invaders.
Although hafing taken some hits, both planes safely returned to their base.

Later during the day, a routine patrol from GC III/4 encountered several Me109 and in spite of a fierce resistance, two pilots were hit and forced to parachute themselves. Landing behind allies lines their were able to return to their base after a quick medical examination confirmed they were OK.
