I've been through the process of adding my site to Yahoo, but it still doesn't show when I perform a search, and Lycos/Alta Vista (which use the exact same engine) keeps saying it can't register at this time.How can we add our sites to search engines without having to pay some company to do it for us?? ------------------

Hi NatMaybe your site does show up in the search results, but because it displays thousands of web sites in the search results, you may need to check the next pages of the search results and go through all the list of the web sites. You can also try registering with another serach engine called Excite.

thanks, I named the site FS-SDOE or similar, and there aren't many show up on that search, so I know it's not there, didn't take long to check, but I'll go try Excite now, thanks  )IP: Logged |

Be sure to have a meta tag on your web site, be sure to include your key words as many times as you can. I have a meta tag maker if you want one, e-mail me or contact me on ICQ and I will download it to you. I have found the best way to get your web site out to people is to visit as many guestbooks as you can and add your site there, I also use the banner exchange program to advertise my site.
But to get back to your question, I think most search engines SPIDER your site, the more they pick up on the KEY WORDS (SDOE, Fighter Squadron, WW2, Flight Simulators)in the META TAGS, the higher up the list your site is posted. I also have several links where you can add your site to search engines for free.------------------

Here is a couple of links to get your site posted in the search engines for free.. they do request a link from your site to theirs..This one is most excellent... all you have to do is click..and sit back and watch it do the work... http://www.announceitamerica.com/ This one is also kewel http://www.addme.com/ One thing to remember, is that you need to repost your site every so often. Your welcome. Now you can help me. Please tell me how to add my link or banner to my signature on this message baord. I have tried several ways and they come up with extra chacaters and don't work. Meta Tags... well, cause I'm not on ICQ, I had a quick look in the net, and I found something well worth it.. http://www.websitepromote.com/resources/meta/
this page takes some info you put in, then generates a Meta Tag and mails it to you within seconds, then just copy and paste it into your html code as described in the mail  IP: Logged |

Thats a roger, meta tags are VERY IMPORTANT and you are on the right trach, just remember, the more info you put in, the better off you are when the search engines spider your site.IP: Logged |
