Well in typical republican fashion the gold
in the WTC has been found so New York's mayor,
Guilonte (sp?) has cut the amount of fire
fighters working to save overtime money.
I guess he figures the rest of the bodies
can be dug out with a backhoe. The firefighters
are having a fit and I don't blame them.

Smokey, why do you have to politicise everything? You are so hateful and mean spirited you always assume the worse. It must be terrible to be old and pessimistic all the time. If I get that way I hope someone shoots me and puts me out of my misery!

Has it occured to you that the FDNY lost over 300 men at the WTC and that another 300 have been tied up during recovery operations? That maybe the FDNY is a little short handed right now and that maybe these guys are needed back on their regular jobs? You know, there are still other fires and emergencies to deal with, NY is a big place! Maybe Gulliani wants to spend some resources on the living!

The clean-up is estimated to take up to a year. Are you proposing that 300 firefighters be tied up for a year?

No, I don't blame them either for being upset. There are still bodies down there. But they have jobs to do. Far be it for a union to expect it's workers to do the jobs they were hired to do.

Funny, they were needed at the WTC until the
gold was found.

Could be coincidence, or it could be that the owners of the gold were footing part of the bill until it was recovered. You are always looking for the worst in people, especially if they are Republicans!

Look, Guliani has done an exemplary job so far. Just because he's Republican, why can't you cut him some slack? If he was a Demo you'd be looking the other way, just like you did with your boy Clinton.

Bleeding heart liberal 3dp chiming in here! Except for Jerry's last line (which seems pretty "hateful and mean spirited "), I must confess that I agree with him on this score. I just think reality is setting in and that the living (people who need the firefighters to put out the blaze at their home!) have once again become the main priority, which is as it should be. See, not all of us blindly support one side and automatically trash the other. Everyone should try it!

Appearantly there are several firefighters
in New York who don't feel the same as you
do. You don't normally see firefighters hitting
police and getting arrested for it. They
must feel they have a pretty good reason to
protest the actions of the mayor and city
government. The union may have called the
protest but it takes the membership to back
it up.

Like I said at the outset, "No, I don't blame them either for being upset. There are still bodies down there."

3dp and I aren't disagreeing with their feelings about being taken off, but with your reason as to why the work crew was reduced.

Jerry is spot on. I don't pretend I can imagine the feelings of those firefighters in NYC and I hope I am never put in a situation where I will. No one should ever have to go through what they have.
