I hate shite like that, I don't 100% agree with the bombing but I find it patronising to ourselfs, let alone the Afgans to even consider stopping for holy days/months etc.

Maybe we should stop the bombing but land our troops. If they attack our troops then they have violated their own Ramadam (sp?) holy month and we resume bombing.

As Rumsfeld has thankfully pointed out, the likes of Iran and Iraq didn't miss a beat for Muslim holy days during their extended war. Of course this will not matter to the mobs in the street.

Militarily it would be an idiotic move to stop. That said, knowing it would be an issue, I'm surprised and disturbed that the administration started this thing when it did. My fear is that, against all the evidence of history, they thought the bombing would do the job, despite their proclamations about casualties to come, etc.

or

The Northern Alliance would do the dirty work for us and the casualties would be theirs (much like the KLA in Kosovo), not ours. The other evidence for this is that if we really are in a "battlefield support" phase, we shouldn't be at 20,000 ft dropping LGBs. We should be down low, in the mud, A-10/Apache stuff. The current program looks suspiciously like casualty avoidance at all costs to me right now.

I can't stand Bush, but I am still defending the operation to everyone I know. We don't know everything and hopefully there is a good plan being implemented. I hope this is the case and that I am wrong in suspicions. However, if we don't have a serious ground presence by Ramadan, I'm afraid I might become much more sceptical.

I'm afraid a lot of what you say 3dp is true, especially the down-low casualty avoidance part.

I'm hoping that the game plan is that once we get a forward air base established in Afghanistan, from which we can quickly launch Search & Rescue operations, that we will be more prone to putting our pilots at risk.

Let's face it, the Taliban isn't going to just capture our pilots and make them POW's. They are going to torture them and display body parts! If they will publically execute women for wearing makeup, just think what they will do to the "infidel" US soldiers and airmen!

We shouldn't stop bombing until our objectives
are met. We did this in Viet Nam, called a
truce for every little thing that came along.
Every time the enemy used it to resupply.

Are there any combat airwomen? I wasn't aware that there were any women in combat roles.

The Iraqi's captured a female or two during the Gulf War. Not sure what their roles were. Not combat per se but at the front. I think some of the S&R people are women.

There are female F18 pilots. There are female B52 pilots as well. Remember the first woman B52 pilot that got busted for that affair in the Air Force?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no longer any prohibition on women flying combat missions in either the USAF or the RAF. The first female RAF fast jet pilot, Jo Slater, joined the RAF's 617 'Dambusters' Squadron several years ago.

To highly train someone for a job and then not use them in that role when the time comes is an idiotic waste of resources and tax dollars.

More power to them!

Hopefullly by then it (Afghanistan) will be a barren (more so than now) wasteland, completely devoid of human or in this case sub-human life and we won't need to....

Does this sound cold hearted? How about this, they sent people into our country with the express purpose of killing us. And they plan to continue to do so.

Yes, bomb the ever lovin crap out of them.
