In case some didn't notice (and maybe some
tried not to notice) this is an election
year for President of the United States.

A couple of weeks ago we had the republicans
trying to put on a new face of compasion,
caring and inclusivness. Too bad they didn't
fool anybody. We all know their platform
consists of the following.

1. Slashing medicare/medicade and torpedoing
perscription drugs for seniors while they
line the pockets of their corporation
buddys with tax breaks, research grants
and other forms of corporate welfare.

2. Weakening environmental and OSHA laws to
the point where they have little inpact.

3. Dishing out the current budget surplus in
the form of tax breaks for their rich
buddys.

4. Making it so well to do people with
estates worth over 675000 dollars can
leave that estate when they die and not
pay taxes on it.

This week we have the democrats who are
rightfully claiming credit for the good
economy. It is kinda funny to see them
dancing around the fact that they have had
an immoral boob in the white house the last
8 years. He's still better than a republican
though.

The only advice I can offer is what an old
man told me when I started working years ago.
He said "If you look down on your paycheck
and see some other son-of-a-bitch had to sign
it for you to get your money then you had
better vote democrat."

I could only add that I would like to be a
republican but I can't afford it.

Whether you like the republicans or democrats
please vote in Nov., it's the most important
thing you will ever be called on to do.

Hmm, that's a pretty simple way to look at the world.

Remember, that during a good part of the last presidential administration we had a Republican Congress. Also remember that when Clinton got elected he took credit for a booming economy his first year that any rational economist would tell you was a result of policies enacted at least a year before Clinton took office.

My take on it would be that Clinton was so busy with his personal scandals that he didn't have time to screw up the country.

Your 4) above really bothers me. A person pays half their income to the government when they're alive, yet you think the government is entitled to more than half the rest when they die? Do you have any idea how many small businesses, sometimes with several employees, are ruined and forced to shut down because of estate taxes? Does that sound like a good use for those assets?

I have two favorite one-liners that apply to this thread:

Republicans complain that big government is corrupt and inefficient, then they get elected and prove it.

and

Would you trust a politician to run the country?

Democrats tell you they are gonna raise taxes.

Republicans lie and say they won't raise taxes, but they do anyway.

The economy is good. Billy G and his evil minions may soon be toppled.... life is good.

2 Things to think about.

1. We are in a social and technological renaissance. The interent has allowed cheap global communication. Stuff like Napster and companies selling your vital info online is a BIG deal. A new economy is emerging right before our eyes. No longer will most of the old style business tactics allow corporate greed to rule over the masses. We must be careful to not let politicians or big business ruin the internet.

2. The military is in bad shape. Whether you know it or not, the military sucks. The Air Force is offering record enlistment bonuses...some up to 50 grand, just to keep people. I'm not talking about pilots either...im talking about everyone. I turned down a nice bonus a few years back..everyone I know in the Air Force has been offered a bonus to reinlist. The military sucks now, and isnt getting any better. Too many TDY's and doing too much with too little people. These people will all vote republican.

Ethics in the White House isn't really an issue (at least not for me). It's how the new technology and global community will be held together. The economy rules right now.....let's see how long we can keep it this way.

Mighty,
To me it is pretty simple. It's been my
experience (52 years worth) that congress
doesn't really matter. It's usually
controlled by a few votes either way and they
end up doing basically nothing. It's the
president and his ability to inspire the
American people that really leads to policies
being instituted. It has never failed during
my lifetime, when a republican is president
you have poor economy, layoffs and the
gutting of labor laws and OSHA laws. All of
this, of course helps their rich buddys.
When a democrat is in the white house you
have a good economy, and jobs for anyone who
wants one.

Dan W
I cannot disagree with anything you said.

Wheather you like the republicans or
democarats please be sure to vote in Nov. It's
the most important thing you can do as a
citizen.

Yeah, that Jimmy Carter economy was really something, wasn't it. Boy, I sure miss that 13% inflation rate and the 17% prime interest rate. Those were the good old days! At least until Reagan came along and spoiled it all with the longest sustained economic growth this country had ever seen (up until then). Of course he had to cut the inflation rate and lending rates in half to do it, but hell, we all have to make sacrifices don't we?

I guess your lifetime doesn't include those 12 years, eh Smokey? Isn't senility a terrible thing!

Jerry,
What growth during the Reagan years?? You
must have been on a different planet than
me. All I remember is layoffs, union busting
and hard times for everyone except the very
rich. Oh yeah don't forget a little law
breaking thrown in with Iran Contra.

As far as the longest sustained growth in our
history I think you got Reagan mixed up with
Bill Clinton.

Go to any government record of the Gross National Product. It will show a sustained quarter to quarter growth throughout the last six Reagan years. Longest in US history until the 90's. It took him two years to fix the mess Carter left. On my planet we base our opinions on fact not one-sided erroneous propaganda. How about your's?

I see you fail to mention the inflation rate and interest rates during the Carter administration. To say nothing of his desimation of the military while he was in office.

And I am sorry but any party that want's to rewrite the constitution and take away my right to protect myself on the premise that the police can do it can bite me. Add that to the Tipper Gore and Liebewitz's(Or however he spells it) campaign against what they consider to be "Damaging media". Democrats are just as 2 faced.... First amendment for burning the flag, but don't watch Saving Private Ryan.. it's violent.
Democrats are the biggest facists and socialist pigs in this country. Every time one of them opens thier mouths I get flashback's to the 3rd Riech and Stalinist speeches.
I am not a republican, but I have fewer problems with them then the revamped socialist teachings of the democrats.
Mirthain=FC=
BTW.... Clinton took credit for every decision that congress made... a REPUBLICAN congress.
BTW, Congress really does implement the policy..... above all congress does, but congress is mostly controlled by the parties.

Mirthain, I'm sorry you find yourself in so many gun battles. That must be rough .
The Republicans aren't exactly looking out for you either. They want to get rid of the First, the Second (isn't encryption considered a munition?), the Fourth, the Fifth, the Sixth, the Eighth, the Ninth and the Tenth Ammendments. In fact, the Republicans are pretty much against the entire Bill of Rights.

Hey Lothar, if big business is in charge, who the hell needs a Bill of Rights anyway, besides a bunch of whining knee-jerk liberals who want to hand out hard-earned money to minorities and tree-huggers?
