People/special interest groups ... There is a movie (the name excapes me at the moment).. where Arab special interst groups are picketing ... boycotting ... and bad mouthing because they feel it portrays Arab peopl in a negative and deflamitory way ... ... I say "Shut the fuck up and get a life." Where were these people when movies potrayed Germans as "goose-stepping murderers"? ... where were they when Asians are/were potrayed as "Fanatical blood-thirsty hordes"? ... ... GIVE ME A BREAK! It's like people are just LOOKING for things to bitch about ... I'm so sick and fucking tired of "special interst groups" looking out for my personal well being ... ... My advice to these people ... "GET A HOBBY" and worry about yourselves for a change! THEN ... You have the Gonzales kid ... Cuban-Americans are pissing vinager because the US want to send him back to Cuba to be with his "natual father" ... ... Picture this ... The kid hops a boat with his "Dad" ... Boat goes down and Dad drowns. The kid gets picked up and shipped back to his "mother" within a week ... no questions asked ... done. Sheez ... I gotta go find some decaffe ... I'm gonna blow a vein here! : [This message has been edited by Zurawski (edited 04-25-2000).] IP: Logged

Yeah, those Cubans holding up banners for Democracy I noticed on the news! ROFLMAO.. they don't even want democracy because they don't want the rule of law, all they want is what they think is right and shit on anyone that wants to do it legally! OK, maybe the Feds could have done things better, but then, would you want to be the guy that tries to just walk to that house and take the boy away... I think not, not with that mob outside. Your right Zur.. to many sad ppl thinking they know whats best for the rest of us, instead of getting on with living... ~Nat~ IP: Logged

hehe ... sorry about the explitives .. I got had to vent. It just amazes me ... Abortion protesters fire-bombing and killing Physicians ... Thousands line roads and over-passes with huge pictures of aborted fetuses ... declaring pro-choice people are sick and morally corrupt. People/schools taking children from families because the parents spank their child. ect..ect..ect ... Point is ... everyone is worried about what everyone "else" is doing ... and drving the country to ruination. Standing up for a cause is one thing ... "forcing" your opinion down others throats is another. I personally take great offense from "special interest groups" telling "me" what I should or should not do ... "Mind thy self" ... is all I have further to say. IP: Logged

Same here in Holland. We got tons of muslims living in ghetto's on our huge Dutch social security fund who barely even speak Dutch and then complaigning about ancient traditions we got over here and pushing up their own. So they want ritual slaughtering of animals for their fests (bleeding cows to death), Turkish and Morrocan TV stations on our cable, make moslim fests national holidays and they already gotten people like my dad (who's a surgeon) to do free surcomsisons subsidised by the government. Who do they think they are? BTW, if I would say this in Holland, I'd definitely be called a racist, or even a fascist (any comment you make about someone else's culture nowadays will make you one) ------------------ IP: Logged

LOL! I work with a Baptist Minister ... (we call'm reverend Tim) On more than one occasion He's asked me to turn down my radio because he finds the music "offensive" ... YET ... I HAVE to turn it up to hear it over his religous CDs! ... It's all a matter of perspective ... What ever affects someone "personally" .. immediatly becomes the "just cause" ... We Americans have "special interest groups" sueing tobacco industries because "they" choose to smoke despite knowing that it's unhealthy (Nothing like declaring ingnorance).. We have "special interest groups" boycotting abortion clinics ... yet support radicals killing and injuring physicians ...We have "Afro-American support groups" storming onto construction job-sites and disrupting construction and even go so far as to threaten violence untill the site highers the group of protesters, becuase "THEY" feel there there are not enough minorities on the job ... It just makes me sick! ... Everybody want to point the failings of themselves and society on "others" rather than except it themselves ... IP: Logged

Just saw a blurb on TV about a fellow who lives in Westminster, just outside of Camp Pendleton. He came to this country 25 years ago, airlifted from Vietnam. He didn't have a lot of say on where he was going, and didn't want to leave in the first place, but realized he probably wouldn't live too long if he stayed. I don't know for sure, but I believe when you're airlifted out of somewhere as a refugee, they probably don't allow you to bring a lot of stuff with you. I'm not sure if he even knew how to speak the language. 25 years later, not too far from where he stepped off the plane, he is the owner of a local business, and is serving I believe his second term as a city councilman. I remember years ago when a friend of mine left home for college, his rather eccentric parents decided to provide a home for a family of Vietnamese refugees. The first thing they did was to take English classes. Within months, the college age boy of the family had enrolled at the University of Missouri, taking 16 hours, and had a full-time job as a janitor. The last I heard he had been accepted to medical school with plans of being a radiologist. A good friend of mine came to the United States from Poland. His first job was at a McDonald's in Chicago. His knowledge of computers is frightening. Good frightening. He worked there for quite a while, pretty excited about the wages he was making. He now has his own computer consulting business, and doesn't have a lot of time to work in new customers, or even help out his good buddy as much anymore. All of these individuals came to another country, without the ability to speak the language, starting at the bottom of the heap. They didn't just make lemonade from the citrus handed them, they crafted lemon merangue pie. If I had half their dedication and drive...well, honestly I don't know. The possibilities are almost limitless. I find it incredible and amazing what people who are not native to a land can do if they put their mind to it, and become a part of that country's "system" so to speak. The Vietnamese fellow in Westminster doesn't deny his heritage, nor does he speak ill of the land of his birth. He is quite happy that he has been able to do the things he has here though, and is obviously quite moved by the country who, as he sees it, has provided him with limitless opportunity. The Vietnamese family who my friend's eccentric parents sponsored, didn't begin their tenure in this country with a flag burning at the local mall. Rather they looked at those who had come to this country in boats before, and they kicked ass and they took names. I can only imagine that the young man who took 16 hours and worked 40hrs. a week many years ago, is now one of the finest, most knowledgable radiologists in his part of the country. Probably drives an M5 home from work at the end of the day to a rather large 2 story on a 5 acre lot. My friend from Poland has adapted well, and reminds me that as a result of studying for his test to become a U.S. citizen, he probably knows more about the United States Government than I do. Unfortunately, he is probably correct. I think the refusal to accept the fact that you are no longer are in the country of your birth can be directly related to a fear of failure, and/or inherent laziness. It's as easy to band together and declare "The Man" is trying to keep you down as it is to wear military clothing, worship a dead monster, and say that immigrants and various ethnic groups are responsible for your failure as a human being. We have an International Society now. Unfortunately, what we're finding out is that all cultures, and all people are amazingly the same. They all have the ability to achieve incredible things in life, and they all have the ability to burn flags at the mall, or start paramilitary hate groups to blame the flag burners for all their problems. Basically, it's time we started identifying these people not by the nation of their birth, but by the flag they are flying by the results of their actions. I call it the "Lazy Asshole With a Fear of Failure" flag. Maybe if we called them that instead of identifying them by the place they came from, they'd realize what they were doing. Hell, it couldn't be any scarier than living in war-torn mid-70's Vietnam, or working at a McDonald's could it? Mk10=225th= IP: Logged

Basically, it's time we started identifying these people not by the nation of their birth, but by the flag they are flying by the results of their actions. Mk, I honestly believe that the vast majority of Americans would like to do just that - look at everyone in this country as an American and treat them accordingly. But that means treating them as nothing special except by their own accomplishments - judging people by what they do and how they behave, not by what they are. However our government, academia and the business community have embraced "Diversity" as the operative concept. We are expected to emphasize and honor everyone's differences and they in turn are expected to flaunt how different they are. How can our children hope to grow-up color blind and culture neutral when a person's race, ethnicity or sexual preference is constantly being pointed out by the groups themselves who are demanding that they be accepted? The linguistic root of Diversity is "divide". And that is exactly what's happening. You want ethnic diversity? Go to Kosovo. It doesn't work. Until we start emphasing what we all have in common and start sharing a common value system we are going to continue having racial and ethnic strife. Successful immigrants, to any country, are successful because they adopt the language and culture of their new home - not by duplicating the "old" country. As proven by the examples you gave. If someone wants to live in Little Havana or Chinatown all their lives that's their choice. But I shouldn't be asked to call them Americans and bestow upon them all the privilges of being an American. I'm not raising the American flag here. IMO everything I said applies to all countries. If I want to move to another country and want to be accepted I should be expected to act like I belong, not as an expatriate American. If I don't want to accept the culture, laws, language and traditions of my new country I shouldn't move there. IP: Logged

... MK, That was the most well-worded post (not to mention poinent).. I've yet seen on this forum. Not only that, it ring 100% true! Speaking for myself ... pride myself for being the apple that didn't fell far from the tree ... My father's parents came directly from Poland and as one might suspect my father inherited quite the "work ethic". I recall his stories how he worked three jobs (rail-road laborer .. foundery worker .. machanic) with less than four hours sleep a night .. just to provide for his family after the war ... Yet today ... You hear these "kids" bitch'n moan how they have to work a part-time job to support their drug-addictions ... What America is REALLY missing is some good'ol fashion "ass whoop'n"! 30 years ago a kid got out'a hand his immediate fear was that of his fathers retribution. "Today" ... everyones running around using this "doctor Spock - touchy feely" shit ... and Kids are running all over their parents and schools (hell no one has any authority any more ... not even the police!) Getting back to my rantings ... You can swat your kid in public for being a insolent-pain ... But you have to be wary, because there is always a chance that some self-rightous "spectator" will turn you into child welfair and they will take you kid from you! I realize there "IS" child abuse ... I'm not disputing that ... There "IS" however a definative line between "abuse" and "bahavor modification" Ack! ... I'm fuming again ... where is my stress doll?! Jerry does have a point, as long as he's not talking about FOOD! Chinese, Indian, Mexican, Italian, Greek... it's all good! By the way, most immigrants do want to learn the language. It's just the older folks that have a tough time with it. The older someone is, the harder it is for them to learn a new language. That's doesn't mean they don't want to learn... it's just how the brain works. Living in communities where little English is spoken doesn't help either. My parents are immigrants from Italy. They didn't know any English when they came here in the 60s, but they learned. They learned on their own out of necessity and desire to learn. And I'll tell you what else... I've never known them to put up an Italian flag in their home, place of business, or anywhere... ever. They came here to be Americans... not Italians living in America. I am totally against multilingual signage. Putting up signs in Spanish or whatever else is not the way to encourage people to learn English. There were no multilingual signs around when my parents were learning English and they got around OK... they did OK in the end. Immigrants do not lobby for multilingual signage. The people who lobby for multilingual signage are usually busy-body-goodie-goodies who were born here and think immigrants would die if not for their efforts. They mean well, but the obviously underestimate the human brain's ability to take to language. They might also be the sons/daughters of immigrants so there might be a little pride in there too. Which brings me to another point. People these days often talk about pride like it's a good thing. Black pride, white pride... all non-sense. Pride is not an admirable emotion. It is an endulgence and only leads to hate. Hate for anything that's not you. President Filmore once wrote, "As no man is responsible for the circumstances of his birth, they furnish nothing to be proud or ashamed of.". I was born American, but I'm not proud of that. Nor am I ashamed of that. I simply cannot be proud or ashamed of something I had no control over. My parents are Italian. Am I proud of that? No. I had no control over that either. So, when ever you hear people throwing pride around, remember President Filmore's words :-) [This message has been edited by JT (edited 04-29-2000).] IP: Logged

And if you call me a redneck, I'll duly point you to my bare feet relatives in East Texas. Why are Cubans so mad? Didn't Clinton shove a Cuban cigar up that intern's ca-hootchie?Damn, talk about good advertising, they should love this administration. If you guys think the whiner groups are bad, you should come down to the Univershity of Texas. People protest anything down here. One group was giving away porno magazines in exchange for bibles. Boy, people were in an uproar about that one. And the worst part, the pages were all stuck together. Go figure. Then, a few weeks ago, we had a Nazi group put out some fliers telling white females to aviod having sex with blacks because they might get AIDS. People really freaked out about this one. Some new minority group staged a rally. 30 out of 49,000 students showed up. If they would have left the issue alone, it would have died a quiet death. Now everyone knows about the Nazi group. Their tactics worked. I saw one of the Nazi guys putting up a new poster and I asked him which is better, the Me109 or the P51 Mustang. He just looked at me and shrugged, "What the hell are you talking about? I'm only getting 20 bucks to put up these flyers." Then I asked him if he had ever seen that movie, Blue Brothers, and if he gets mad everytime he sees that part where Jake and Elwood run those Nazi guys off the bridge." He told me to go fuck myself. I gave him a Nazi salute and he left. Poor bastard forgot that he left the flyers on the ground. The wind picked them up and spreaded them all down the street. They blew in front of a group of Islamic students how picked them up and became unruly. I yelled, "Pipe bomb, duck!!" and ran to class. IP: Logged

Spanky here.. Well I for one am a NON beliver in the whole christian thing. And every other organized religion that I have heard of. I don't know if you would call me an Athiest or not based on that. I do support the notion that there is possibly somthing higher up in the chain then us. BUT I refuse to pray to that or bow down. I'm not a freaking sheep and thats how your so called god treats you. Specialy if I have never met him Religion in its present state is mearly a crutch for most people who have a hard time living in a world they either cannot, will not, or refuse to understand. Organized religion in my mind is almost a evil thing. There is way too much the church hides from its belivers and corruption is rampent. I remember reading or hearing somewhere that the church refused to let anyone outside a very select few see the original documents our present day bible is based on, why do you think that is? Maybe cause it has somthing to hide? Somthing that might either disuade people from joining the church or call the church's very exsitance into question? Do you really belive its looking out for its peoples best intrests? Maybe in some cases. But cases of christians refusing to help or even harming to the extent of helping the nazis kill jews during the second world war is documented. Forged in Fury, by Michael Elkins. "In Kovno itself, the few thousand Jews living outside what was to become the Virirampole ghetto were helped across the Memel River by volunteers among their Christian neighbors who relieved them of the burden of transporting their houshold goods." IE. They stole from the jews as they passed by them. Yep great religion there boys. If thats not enough alone to taint the whole damn thing. They are trying to give a Sainthood to One of the higher ups in the Church during the war. Not sure of the name. But he didn't exactly do much to help the Jews out. He might have been able to convince the Germans to do less damage then he did. What did he do? NOTHING. Not ONE THING. And don't belive for a second that he didn't know what was going on. Laugh all you want but I am entitled in some states and provinces to legaly marry people. Our belifes are to follow the laws of the land and to respect everyones right to there own belifes. THATS it nice and simple. So go ahead and belive in what you want. Just don't ask me to join in. Oh and next time you shoot me down. Thats reverend spanky to you. Thank you very much BTW does it bug anyone else that our calender is based on the death of Jesus. What about us who don't belive in Jesus, why should be be subject to following your calender if we don't belive or follow your relegion. So much for freedom of religion. What a freaking crock. Religion is a funny thing. It teaches people to be good to one another and that we should love one another. Then how come Catholics don't like the Jews? And how come the Muslims don't like anyone but other Muslims? Kind of sad isn't it? Different religions only split mankind apart and are good for making wars. I say get rid of all the religions and only teach the "Golden Rule". I have a hard time with religion because of this one thing, I also believe in evolution. So are you going to tell that one day "poof" there was man? And "poof" there was the horse, cow, apes, ect? And are you going to tell me that mankind is the only one out here and that there is no life on other planets? Himdog out IP: Logged
