I wsa sitting in the ready room when this tall, lanky pilot walked through the door. He had a flight suit like I'd never seen before but when he opened his mouth you could tell he was an american. He seemed a little shocked and I bought him dinner and a beer. I asked him about his gear and what squadron he was with. He looked at me and said, "you wouldn't recognize it." "oh yeah, well what do you fly" I quipped. He started talking about Tomcats, Hornets, Eagles and Phantoms. Now I looked at him with a lost look.To make a long story short we found out over time he was from the future and had been flying jets! Since he was an experienced pilot, I finally talked him into going up and giving our crates a try. He knew I was a rookie, and with a big smile he said, "why not, maybe you can learn a thing or two."
We took off and I let him get used to his plane, then we started in. After getting on his tail the fourth time in less than 10 minutes and letting him have it, I could tell he was getting discouraged. He lept trying "to go ballistic" as he put it. I'd just wait below him and as soon as he stalled out and came tumbling past me, I'd jump on his arse and show him what he was teaching me
I finally suggested we cross the channel fro a real figh and he brightened up. We ran into a FW-190 and a couple of 262's. I was so busy bailing his butt out of hot water, I was never able to really mix it up with the German's.
We flew back to base with me shepherding his lead filled, bullet riddled scrap heap (that at one time was a beautiful Mustang), and making sure he landed safely.
I don't know what they teach in the future, but those jet jockey's don't seem like much of a "real pilot" to me.
He vowed he'd start practicing on props and if he met me again, things woul be different.
The moral of this story: If you have a couple of computers networked at home and you know some Flight -sim jet jockeys. Invite them over for a "good time"
