We got word that there were two British Dh2's spotted north flying towards our aerodrome (Abbeveille Field). Myself and two others took off in our Fokker Dr1's to attack the planes. Just as we started climbing we dicovered the enemy crafts at about 10,000 feet. Just as we were about to attack I discovered two British Se5a's swooping down on us! I've heard accounts of enemy planes before, but I thought they were just stories...Lucky for us the Se5's overshot us. My squadmates began to circle around as well, going into a steep circleing dives. I started a slow turn in the direction of the enemy as well, holding my altitide.
Soon both Se5's were on the tail of one of our Fokkers - the Fokker continued its steep diving turn until the ground came near, then dodged around a hill. The Se5's, who had pulled out of the dive earlier, ended up on the other side of the hill. By this time the other Fokker had joined in behind and above the first and both proceeded to slip in behind the two Se5's. Another turn fight followed. Soon an Se5 fired some shots on one of the Fokkers and that Fokker broke off leaving the other Fokker still in persuit of the other Se5 by itself. Now two turn fights followed. At this time I relized an oppertunity to dive on one of the unsuspecting Se5's trying to shake his advisary. As I came in fast behind the Fokker I saw the other Fokker out of the corner of my eye, being shot at by the other Se5a. Another second later the poor Fokker collided directly into the Fokker not 50 feet in front of me! Even less than a second after that the sky around me was filled with pieces of Fokker flying in all directions! The Se5 that was in persuit veered toward the Se5 I was engaging, but itself plowed through the reckage! Snapping back to reality I relized that my prey was right in my sights- so I fired away - direct hits! Soon the Se5's lower right wing parted company and the plane began a semi-controlled decent to Earth. Just before the plane struck the ground I pulled out and started to survey the sky. The lone Se5 left was flying low and slow - he seemed to be having engine trouble. I turned and followed. It seemed to take forever to catch up. But as soon as I got there he stalled and fell softly into the ground - looks like he will fight another day, unlike the other partakers in the fatefull battle...
Both Dh2's were unharmed.

WWI dogfighting in SDOE is soooo cool! The clouds where great! The fighting was much tighter and in-close with speeds between 85 and 110 or so. In turning fights you could keep most of the planes in sight, and avoiding collisions becomes an important task! Also these planes as of now handle allot of damage, so placing your shots is more important. Also more planes end up crashing then exloding in mid-air.
Fun Fun Fun...
