Hello all,

I have been having crashes in SDOE which at first I though were random, but now I think something with sound effects or my sound card is causing crashes. I'll run down my problem below.

First of all I have upgraded my soundcard from a Creative audio Sound Blaster to a Santa Cruz Turtle beach. The sound in all of my other games is perfect and even better, and I get no crashes at any time, and my Mp3's also play fine. Only SDOE is crashing on me.

My crashes only happen with certain vehicles and weapons. For example, when I am flying the short stirling and drop bombs the the game pauses for a few seconds, I get a wierd noise and the sound dissapears completely. Then the frame rates drop really low and I eventually get an exception OE error. Or instead of the the sound going away, it makes a high pitched squel that will not go away untill I reboot. After I loose sound I get no sound through my whole PC and have to reboot, but my PC will not reboot properly and then I have to hold the on/off button in for 5 seconds untill it shuts down.

The crashes are consistant in one way, I always loose sound completely then SDOE crashes and I need to reboot. Usually the crash is related to an engine starting or rocket/bomb firing. This happens mainly with my WWII install. But it has also happened a couple of times in my WWI install when rockets are fired or the pilots talk.

I have all of the proper files in my startup.ppf for all of my ac and vehicles. I have tried deleting the SDOE cache files and that did not work. I also have the latest sound Card drivers for my Santa Cruz, I have the 2.10 patch installed for SDOE and I'm running WinMe.

Is it possible I need to change some of my sound card settings? could it be something with my sounds.ppf file? I'm really clueless and I have done 3 SDOE reinstalls in the last 5 months, and I'll only do that as a last option. Thanks for the help all.

BSheep, I know you've already thought of this but it may be your only option, do you still have your old card? Try eliminating the frist thing that went wrong, your new card, good luck!

FQ, your right that was actually the first thing I thought of. But it took an act of Congress to get my Santa Cruz sound Card to work properly so I was hesistant about remving it again. I'm going to try some other things before I remove it, but if none of that works I'll try switching the cards. Thanks

S! Killer Ants,

You are the greatest I went into Dxdiag like you said, then I went to direct sound and turned the hardware accelleration down to Basic. Then I went over to SDOE to test it out, got in the Short Stirling, dropped bombs and it didn't crash! I did the test 3 times and SDOE is working perfectly again. Thanks KA

Thanks again gyus.
