I have a computer which can dialup to the internet if I connect outwith IE 5.5, however IE 5.5 refuses to see the connection and always returns a server/DNS lookup error. It also will not dialup the default DUNS setting even though that option is selected in its connections settings screen. I have repaired IE 5.5 twice, removed and reinstalled DUNS, reinstalled 98SE and tried various TCP/IP settings , all to no avail. PS AOL software can recieve and send email fine but also cannot access internet.

The browser has nothing to do with it. Can you connect by doing so through just your ISP's icon. This'll be in Control Panel then Dial up networking. Double click on the icon. Your modem should start making all those rude noises. If this works then go into IE's Internet Options and be sure that it knows it's supposed to dial. There's a radio button that may be selected that says "never dial a connection". Change it to Always dial my default. If you keep getting DNS errors, check and be sure the IP address for your ISP's DNS server is right. If all this is right call your ISP.

I have already tried all what you suggest with no luck Sunray, as this happens with all 4 different ISP settings it is not them so I am not ringing them up. I have checked all the settings and made sure they are exactly the same as another connecting PC but still no joy.
