Sometimes, when I try to save a scenario with the mission editor I get the crash notification. It isn't doing it with a scenario involving the Morane and 2 Aviatiks over the Somme, it IS doing it every time with a SPAD and the ALB D1 over the Somme. You've probably seen the error message:

"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor."

Details:

"MISSIONEDITOR caused an invalid page fault in
module MISSIONEDITOR.EXE at 0187:00422801.

It's a real bummer since I'm working under Sparks on the WW1 mission pack. Help?

V/R,

Chaps

Is this the beta patch editor? Yeah- it has aproblem with saving any of the Nations squadrons....in fact- any squadron other than the ones that were default. If you open the mission up in Notepad or Wordpad and enter the squadron's name manually (someone released a key as to which French squad was 01, etc...), it'll save OK and will work in game.

I can create missions with NV2's French squads just fine. Can someone help me on how to reproduce the problem here?

Jeeves, thanks! I will do that. If someone has a key they can post here, that would be most helpful. The new releases in WW1 are motivating me. Similarly, if someone could post the line to post in there that makes a good early morning color scheme (sky and fog) that would be nice too, since I think the same problem, and same solution works.

Pachy, I'm using the mission editor from the latest, and next to latest beta patches from Wings With Wires. They are whatever-.9 and .10, the latter just having been released. I unfortunately installed the .10 patch right into the primary directory for SDOE, so I lost the original mission editor, and I'm resisting the idea of deleting it all and reinstalling.

My hope is that someone at WWW will look at fixing the mission editor as another patch...

You know, I've been pulled back to this game from Operation Flashpoint, which is a stellar game. But SDOE is such a fun game, and all you folks that release Nations patches, new aircraft, new missions, new ground vehicles, new game patches, etc. keep SDOE fresh and exciting. Thanks to you all, and to those of you who take the time to help folks like me on the Forum.

I am totally unable to reproduce this bug. I'd like to help, since I created the WWII French squads, but I have had no problems yet.

I cannot re-create the problem neither...

Wing Chaps, can you send me a mission file and some "for the dumb user" list of actions to create the problem ?

Well, no, I can't because the editor won't save the work I did. If I put together a mission that won't work and try to save it, I get the error message.

Now, what I HAVE seen is that sometimes it'll only save PART of the mission, and substitute the first Jasta on the list for the squadron of the first airplane I worked on, which happened to be the one I attempted to assign to a squadron. The other aircraft are gone as well.

I have a crazy question. I don't have the WWII plane packs installed, my intention was that this installation would be the WWI installation, another would be the WWII one. That was so I'd keep the number of aircraft down to something manageable. Could THAT have anything to do with it? What I'm running now is what the WWI sites say to have, with the SPADVII thrown in, but nothing else.

I'll mess around today with some missions, and see if I can give you more data. For one thing, I'll try to write a mission with a Jasta, and an original American squadron (like the Scramin' Demons) in place of the French one, and see.

Thanks for your interest,
