Evening All

Sort of a longwinded, not too-well-thought-out question but:

1. Does 1.5.2.9 patch supercede FSCBeta patches?
2. a) I used to put the FSCBeta patches in my normal FS directories.
2. b) What happens if I put 1.5.2.9 and its bits and pieces there, rather than in a separate Directory IF I don't use FSC Beta's app.exe? (This might save a lot of *.ini file fiddling to get the game setups identical)
3. Is 1.5.2.9 the online standard or just an option on some days?
4. I remember someone had a fix for the apparently small damage done in on-line games. Is this still used on-line, or is it part of 1.5.2.9 (not clear in read me - just stuff about explosions)
5. Is PP6 or 6.1 the online standard plane pack?
6. Where do I get 6.1?
7. Where is the best source of Hi-Res planes: I just downloaded the two parts Hi-Res Support from Simfiles - anywhere else I should go?
8. How best can I use the "Open Plane" section of the FSC Betas and 1.5.2.9? It really looks like it could be useful if I want to keep all my options open.
9. How does everyone else keep track of what files go where so that they can a) keep maximum sound and visual appeal of game up, b) keep compatible on and off line, c) rescue it all when you make a whoopsie.

I am sure there is more. I am sure I can still get it wrong, but I must persist because Battle of Britain is not available here anymore, IL-2 doesn't exist (here or anywhere?), and I don't want to change from FSSDOE anyway: I really like the way the planes fly, stall, etc - much better than EAW I think.

That'll do for a start.

Many thanks for your time,
Copperhead.

P.S. Ooh! look at that - I just "re-found" the OnLine Standard bit from Michael Harrison, which has been changed! - however still worth asking all those questions.

Some of your install questions may be answered here:
http://www.geocities.com/archersweb/sdoe.htm

there are also links for just about all the main SDOE web sites there too.

Hope this helps.

Hi Copperhead,

I'll try my best...

1. Yes.
2. I'm not sure but to be safe I always install different patch versions to their own seperate directories.
3. I'd say the latter, but I don't play online too often. Last time I was online though, most people preferred/used/ 1.5.2.9.
4. 1.5.2.9 apparently fixes the online damage bug so these fixes aren't nessecary.
5. As far as I know, different players use different packs and you just have to be lucky to find someone online with your setup. Right now the online standard is somewhat confusing and not crystal clear, there are people in the community working to fix the online standard though in the form of a "Base Pack".
6. http://www.angelfire.com/games2/spinsdoe/
7. Try Abbeville Field Err- actually AF has the skins...I thought you were referring to hi-res skins. With regard to planes, I guess this board is the best place to check on updates and new planes that are released for SDOE. Nevertheless check out AF, it's a great site for SDOE content and it has links to other SDOE sites too.
8. This feature is used to switch "on" and "off" various add-on packs you have installed in SDOE to reduce the load on the game. First decide which add-ons you'd like to be able to enable and disable (for this example, WWI pack 2 and Ground Pack 2) then first make a folder called "Openplane" inside your media folder. Then inside the Openplane dir, make folders that are named after your add-ons, for example "WWI Pack 2" and "GP2". Place the .par files of these add-ons in each respective folder. Start SDOE, enter the Openplane section and you'll see the add-ons you added to the OPP dir appear in the list ready to be enabled or disabled. Thsi Openplane feature only works for add-ons that are using par files.
9. Well imo there is no way to, just be aware of the add-ons you are installing and examine the zip archives you download before installing them. To keep online compatibility, I suggest having a seperate SDOE install for online play only.

Cheers!
