GP,

You must have an installation problem if you can't see anyone in lobby. Check out my web for proper install. If you have ICQ and see me on ping me and I will be glad to meet you online.

As far as FPS, can't be much help. Seems strange if you have not changed any Video settings that the sim would change like that.

Ground pounder,
You missed the 1.5 patch and also PP6.0
Go back to archers site http://www.geocities.com/archersweb/sdoeinstall.htm
or visite this : http://fscentral.50megs.com/ and go to getting started and follow the instructions.
Hope this solved your problem.

apoligize for doing soooo much whining, but this is annoying as hell! Any how, did a complete re install as per Archer's sequence ( didn't install any WW1 packs). Ihave narrowed the problem down to P1529. PP6,pp6.1 have normal FPS (25-70). when I use the P1529( with pp61b4 open or closed), it starts at>1000(!!!) and drops right down to 1.6-3.0(!!!!). i have no add on planes, just using what's in the PP. Advice?

GP,

what version of DirectX are U using ?
For 1529, you need at least DX7.

USING Dx7--. narrowed it down further, am experiencing really low Fps when in cockpit inP1529, when it's ext view it's 20-40fps( doesn't matter if pp61b4 in or out). Actually got on line late this AM, but left cause it was soooo slow. did re check / install drivers and got some acceleration, but it is still no fun! got no problems straight pp61+p1.5, it's only p1529. comments?( yeah, I know I'm a computer dummy!!!)

Any difference between D3D and OpenGL?

GP,
iīm not sure but if you canīt select openGL in the option screen than maybe your patch installation is not correct.

GP,

What type of video card are you using?

I know that with my old TNT2 card I did not have an OpenGL option choice, so this would be normal for you. If your card is capable of support for OpenGL then something is wrong. However, the best fps for me (I have both choices) is definetly in D3D.

When you did your re-install, did you completely delete the FS directories? I assume you did but thought I should double check.

ATI Rage 128. I ve never seen openGL show up in any options screen. i did a complete re install, as per your instructions. prior to all this i was getting 20 -70 fps. been re checking drivers, etc. it gets better, I think my joystick just gave up the ghost. some buttons dont work. more grief!!!

GP,

I think you could be using OpenGL without noticing. It could explain the low framerates you are experiencing: the ATI OpenGL driver is far from being optimized (especially with fog).

What you can try is the following: launch the FSSDOE application from a command prompt (DOS box) and put the /w option: "app.exe /w". It will launch FSSDOE in a window. If, when you start a mission, you stay in window mode, then you are definitely in OpenGL.

What you can also try to "force" D3D is switch to software mode, launch a mission, switch back to D3D.

Hope this helps,

Vincent

VDU- interesting! tried your 2nd solution in pp61, took a while to load, ended up with very lousy terrain texture(squares of green and black, same FPS). no Open Gl showed up. DId the same In p1529, after three trys, Open GL showed! Tried open GL and Fps improved( incockpit 8-16, ext view 20 -30!) switched back to D3D, no change in FPS(ie 8-20, incockpit, 15-40 ext view) terrain texture in both cases was much more "flowing"( not blocky). gonna keep "screwing around" MUCH THANKS!!!!Buy you abeer!

You have the one brand of video card known for the "driver of the week" issue. Almost everyone using pre Radeon boards has experienced different issues, usually hard to track down.

Narrowed it down a bit more. P6.1 (offline)works ok. P1529(offline)FPS starts off ok(20-40 cockpit fwd view). If I use POV (FPS jumps up), and rtn to cockpit it drops to half or even lower. if I go Chase(FPS jumps again), rtn to cockpit, it drops to 20-30 or lower. Comments?

polygons and alpha textures (thats my comment) it's 100% normal to get geratly different FPS counts depending on where your viewing form, what angle your viewing from, and what distance. Other than that, I can't realy say what the probem could be.

PSI- NOPE! actually FPS has leveled out. It's about 9-20( in cockpit) in P1529, and 20-50 in pp61. Been deleting/ re installing like a bad dry waller!
