Hi all,

I'm looking to upgrade my computer. I have about $400.00 to spend on the following:

motherboard
chip
cd rom
power supply
(possibly a graphics card)

I already have a stick of PC133 RAM, 256 mb.

I want to go with a AMD Athalon, probably a 1.2 ghz. Does anyone have a recommendation for a motherboard and graphics card?

Motherboard: ECS K7S5A motherboard for around $70.
This motherboard works with DDR or SDRAM.

CPU:AMD Athlon 1.4 GHz for about $110.
Case: Enlight EN-72370X3 case with a 300 watt power supply for $50.

Try www.newegg.com.

G/Card, given your spending limit I'd probably have to suggest the Nvidia GForce2MX-400 AGP TV, it's got 64mb SDR RAM (single data rate) and is'n't going to take a big chunk of your money like a GF3 would, but it will give you high res and all the functions you need. (UK price currently £75) RAM - 512mb PC133 @ £52 (never have enough RAM if you got spare cash at the end of everything )

CPU - fully agree with mposis, it's not worth paying more money for a slower CPU ie Pentium, and AMD have just halfed thier prices

M/B - dunno to be honest, I'm not well up un them until I'm looking for one.

CD - forget it and get a DVD or CDRW
Power pack with case, must be 300w

Nice but cheap additions: Removable HD mounts - they have fans inbuilt for cooling and just look damn cool, but are hand aswell.

CPU Cooler - Globalwin CAK38 or better (pref. better as this is built for upto 1.4ghz and you just gotta o/c an athlon) ORBs aren't better.

Case exhaust fan - fits into a blank space where your cards slot in, can never have to much coolig and this helps suck out the heat build up in the case.
