I've noticed that if I use the F4 key to view a bomb in flight, it doesn't explode when it hits the ground, but instead bounces about randomly, eventually sinking into the ground and disappearing. This is very irritating, especially when your aircraft only has one or two bombs! However without the F4 view it's hard to see how accurate (or not) your bombing is.

Is this problem a bug, and have other people encountered it?

You have to arm the bomb before you drop it.

To add to Jerry's post--

Hit "A" to arm-- then 4 for rockets, 5 for pylon bombs, or 6 for bay bombs.....then 7 allows you to fire them all off and 8 allows you to fire one at a time from the pylon.

Ah, so THAT'S what I'm doing wrong! This must also be the reason I never managed to destroy anything with rockets
I didn't realise that you had to arm ordnance first (you don't in most other flight sims), the manual for FS:SDOE really isn't very clear.
