First here is my problem: The old Blocky Clouds, tracers that are blocky, explosions that are also blocky. Very low frame rates when there are other planes around, dropping down below 5 but when I'm by myself(no other planes) the Frame rates jump back to 35. This was done using the 1.5 patch (the standard for now), but NOT when using the .9 patch. THE .9 PATCH works great as far as I know. I'm getting 75 to 80 Frame Rates with all the options out all the way but with the throttle not working(just need to add in the throttle line in the keybroad.imp to get it to work) then I'll test the .9 patch for a slow down too. Ok, here is the kicker on all this, my PC specs: P4, 1.7g, 256mg ram, Geforce 3 card. I'm trying to run SDOE at 1600x1200, fog out all the way(30 miles) and details and textures sliders out all the way too. With this pc I should be able to run SDOE with everything out with no problem. My old PC could run SDOE (settings not set so high) fine with no problems. I have been running other games (CFS2, Jane's WWII, Giants, UT, RS, EAW) with 1600x1200x32(or as high as the game will let me), with options all the way with no problems at all, running great! SDOE is the only game that is running very badly! Does anyone know of something I could try/do? In the current state, SDOE (the 1.5 patch version only) can not be played. Thanks.------------------ 7./JG3_Himdog out www.luftwaffe.net [This message has been edited by Himdog (edited 08-20-2001).] IP: Logged |

Your PC is obviously defective, and should be mailed to me immediately...hmmmm....I know my GeForce card hates D3D but runs sweet in OpenGL...which I why I use the patch. Maybe the GF3 is similar. The blocky clouds was a texture issue.... IP: Logged |

LOL, always a Joker in the pack! In the patch .9 I was running in d3d on the new PC. On my old PC I had a GeForce256 card (32mg) and ran d3d in the .9 patch. I think my Geforce card ran better in 3D3 than in OpenGL. I'll have to check tonight but I don't think the .5 patch gives me an opion to run in OpenGL, only in the .9 patch does the game gives me an opion to run in d3d or OpenGL.------------------ 7./JG3_Himdog out www.luftwaffe.net [This message has been edited by Himdog (edited 08-20-2001).] IP: Logged |

Himdog, 5fps,whow you should be very lucky! If i set the farclip distance at 30mls!!! i get only 2fps! Maybe you should try 10-15mls.You will always get blocky clouds even if you have a 64MB video card. This happend because SDOE is limited by numbers of textures, but some planes used an extensive number of tifs (spits/hurris as example). So this problem can only be solved by the planemakers. The original planes share some textures but many of the usermade not. Rendsburger IP: Logged |

Himdog, it was posted earlier that blocky clouds show up more when 109's are in the mission. I had one mission that kept giving me blocky clouds and I have a 1.2GH Athlon and a 32mb Geforce 2 with 512 RAM. When I changed the 109's to 190's the blocky clouds became normal clouds.IP: Logged |

Thanks for the replys. I found out what was making the blocky clouds, too many squadrons in the air at the same time! I was trying to play some missions which had way too many squadrons and I didn't think about until a day later! Now with 4 or 5 squardons I'm getting around 50 to 70 FPS. But I will say that the .9 patch runs much better for me than the 1.5 patch. Thanks again.------------------ 7./JG3_Himdog out www.luftwaffe.net IP: Logged |

Himdog, WTG lives in the UK. It would be cheaper if you sent your "defective" computer to me instead. IP: Logged | |
