Hello chaps, I have just installed SDOE, and I'm having problems. When I start up the game, and it goes into the main menu.... there's no fonts, on the part where it say's 'Pilot, Options, Training...' just dots where the letters should be, and no matter which menu I go into, its always the same!So what the heck has happened? And what can I do about it? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as I would like to start getting back into this sim again. So please, somebody, anybody, HEEEEELLLLPPPP!!!! IP: Logged |

wow, I've never heard this one before myself, but still, lets start at basics....Could you list for us the following: Your OS CPU type and speed Graphic Card and which driver version you are using Your Desktop Res and color depth. lso, can you tell us exactly what you have installed, ie SDOE only from the CD, or CD + plane pack + patch (and if patch, which version), anything that you've installed to SDOE extra after the CD installation. All this info will help us try and work out whats going wrong for you. ~Nat~ ------------------ =V67th= "Naturlich" "SDOE... What and where would you like to fly today?" Nat old boy,Thanks for your offer of help. To start with here are the specs for my 'puter; 800Mhz AMD Athlon Processor, 128Mb Ram, 21Gb Hard drive, NVidia TNT2 Model 64 Graphics card. The installation that I have of SDOE is bog standard with only the fspatch 150 installed, nothing else. I had the game running a couple of months ago with no problems - it was a mates game - now here is where I think the problem started.... he copied me off his SDOE onto a blank CD-Rom, and when I loaded it, I had the same problem with that. But now, I have bought my own copy, I installed as I usually do.... and the same problem as with the pirate copy.... do you think that its maybe possible that the two problems are connected?

OK, the good thing is we're talking about a fresh "no bells attached" installation, that rules out alot of stuff.Your setup sounds fine, maybe someone might have some pointers on the graphic card about drivers, but I doubt thats the problem in this case from what you've said. OK, what I suggest for starters (you might have done these things already) Completely uninstal SDOE and make sure the folder is removed from your Programs Files directory, so there's nothing left at all, then reboot your PC. OK, now install SDOE from your bought CD, but only SDOE, no patch or anything. Now try playing the game, hopefully the bug is now gone. play 1 mission, then close the game down and instal the 1.5 patch. You can reboot here if you want to be sure, but you shouldn't need to. Now, after putting the patch in, try flying again. OK, do all this, if you find the bug, then tell us at what point you found it, before instaling the patch, after the patch. This will help to trackdown where the bug is, but I think if you do what I've said above that should fix your problems, keep us posted ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Pathfinder,My guess is the initial install botched somethin in the registry entries. you'll probably need to unsintall SDOE, and get rid of those registry entries by hand. Did you tell it to install directX6?. If it did that's also a problem as your video card is too new for that version of directx Copies of game CDs usually don't work unless you can do a bit by bit copy. Only one company offers such a utility that I know of (Plextor) and you have to buy their burners to get it. I have it and use it so games are run off the backup CD and the original CD is left untouched (I have 3 teen age boys- this was CD self preservation) [This message has been edited by Da Jug head (edited 08-09-2001).] IP: Logged |

I had the same problem several months ago when some problems cropped up with my install. I tried several installs with no effect. Finally I reinstalled every thing after complete uninstall including registry entries. What fixed the problem for me was installing the 1.5.patch without running a mission first. I know this is not the proper procedure for install but after several frustrating attempts the other way I tried it and it worked. Hope this helps you. IP: Logged |

This IS the right way to do it. I have 6 different installations of SDOE on 3 machines (including my son's), and we've NEVER had a problem when running the patch before playing the game IP: Logged | |
