Just for fun, I recently set up a mission with a trio of super Hurricanes (all characteristics such as skill and aggression, etc. set to their highest settings) against a bunch of mediocre hostiles.Thing is, I could barely get my Hurricane off the ground, up to speed, and up to altitude and ended up crashing. So I sat back to watch my two wingmen. They seemed to do better (but not much speed and altitude wise), but at some point, both just seemed to go into spins and fall out of the air to their deaths. My questions are thus: Is there something I should know about the Hurricane and the AI (that perhaps downloading Mace's latest will fix)? or Is there something about setting all of the unit properties to their highest settings that makes for bizzare behavior? I'm using the latest patch. Could this have anything to do with it? ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! [This message has been edited by 3dp (edited 08-04-2001).] IP: Logged |

It could well be the patch. Try it in your regular game and see.IP: Logged |

Nope! Same thing happened. Left entirely to the AI, one Hurricane crashed on takeoff and the other two could barely stay in the air (and eventually did the spin out of control and crash thing). The attacking Do17s and Me109s had their skill and aggression set to its lowest setting, and yet their only loss was a Do17 to flak. This is the second install this has happened in. I have installed all of the online standard as I should plus PP6.1, and then I add additional planes, objects, and terrains as PARs (one for each of the categories mentioned) being careful not to use already implemented PAR numbers. Could this have anything to do with it? Any other suggestions on the poor Hurricane performance I'm experiencing? I can't believe the real thing was this sluggish! Where can I get the latest Startup.ppf, maybe that will help. ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! [This message has been edited by 3dp (edited 08-08-2001).] IP: Logged |

I've noticed it too come to think about it. I thought it was because I'm the only one who can tangle with 5 or 6 Nazi's and live to tell about it. I noticed it with the Spit and sometimes with the Typhoon.IP: Logged |

How about it folks, now two of us have noticed this. Anybody have any idea what's going on? I was going to post about it in the patch section, but it doesn't seem to be patch specific.HELP! ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! IP: Logged |

hmm, glad u posted this 3dp. I was wondering myself, I think the hurrie is designed to be this way, It can be flown, but with great difficulty. Probably the flight model is too hard, i know that the hurrie is slow to accelerate and quick to stall. Which is a leathal combination. Best to keep the nose down and let her accelerate to at least 150 before climbing very gently. She will stall as soon as u pull the stick right back at all but her top speed. at the aoa (angle of attack) become to great and the air is not flowing over the wing surfaces and she stalls. but it maybe just a fault. hope this is some help.

It's just good to know that it's not just me or my installation. I'm no expert, but I think that if the AI can't handle it with the pilot skill set to maximum, there must be something wrong somewhere!------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! IP: Logged |

I saw on some missions too that AI canīt start the Hurri (crashed) and also that the spitMK1A need a very long runway (longer than the most whe have actually in SDOE). And one more: AI canīt fly the seafire or seahurricane! And at last: AI canīt fly the Beaus! Rendsburger

Guys i installed the latest updates of all planes (seafire/seahurri/hurri) and it seams that AI handle the planes much better then before!Rendsburger IP: Logged |

Again, I'm no expert, but has this been noted and addressed? The Hurricane, Spifire IA, and Beaus are all in the Plane Pack and I don't recall reading about these difficulties in the README. I would think that fixing what we have before adding new would take priority.Far be it for me to ask for anything on this front as I know nothing about the Herculean effort which goes into plane building / testing, but as I see it, we can't do early war missions before 1941. Given that the Hurricane and the Spit IA often operated from grass strips and that the ones in the game can hardly get off the ground, something has got to be wrong somewhere! Having new planes is fun, but getting the crucial stuff right should be the first priority (I love what the The Crew is doing on this front). Pretty please, someone . . . ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! IP: Logged |

Think 'game'. The guys who build stuff work wonders. I've always considered the AI as telling me to do it myself. It's bloody fun taking on 5 or more enemy aircraft alone.IP: Logged |
