Hello, Do I need to download the Hi Res skin application for the High res skins to work. I didn't think I had to because I'm running patch 2.9 and I'm using the highest resolution 1024. I downloaded the hi res Pappy Boyington corsair skin that someone had made and I could not see all of the rivets and excellent detail. So something is not right. And it's not my machine causing the problem, I have a 1.1 ghz proccesser and 128mb memory and a 16 mb TNT graphics accelerator. So I don't think it's due to my computer. Does anybody know what I need to do to see high res skins? Thanks.------------------ -Blacksheep http://geocities.com/jays3299/toshindo.html IP: Logged |

Yes, you need the Hi Res .sm files; they are available at simfiles, 2 zips, about 3 1/2 megs each...if you need any help placing them, post back here. Once you have those you need, you should see the detail.

You also MUST check that your rather old TNT card will support these textures, I doubt that it does.. even if you have set the texture size to 1024x1024, it wont make any difference unless the actual texture is that size and also the SM file is setup that way, thats why you must download the updated SM files, but like I said, I doubt very much that your card will support anything above 256x256, check the specs of the card to make sure.~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Hello, I downloaded the high res skin support and then I downloaded the Pappy Boyington skin again. I think it looks pretty good, but then again I'm not sure exactly what it should look like. So I'll put a screen capture below, and can you please tell me if it looks like it should, btw it's at 1024. Also I checked to see exactly what kind of card I have it's a 16MB Nvidia TNT-2 Vanta Graphics Accelerator. It shouldn't be that old I just got this computer this year.here's the pic please let me know if it looks right and let me know if I should be running at a lower res like 256 etc. ------------------ -Blacksheep http://geocities.com/jays3299/toshindo.html IP: Logged |

I see lots of rivets on your capture with a really crappy 4meg, on-board video thingy. I'm about to download a high res skin just to see, but your capture has lots of rivets. IP: Logged |

Hee hee TNT's have ALWAYS been able to support textures larger than 256X256. I don't remember if the original limit was 512 or 1024, but it was one of the reasons my first 3D accelerator was a TNT rather than a VoodooIP: Logged |

So I downloaded the high res Spit. I get no rivets, which isn't a big deal, I mean, you can't see rivets at 300+ mph anyway. But now I'm confused. There was only a .tif file, two readme's and a .bmp. Nealg talks about .sm files being at Simfiles. I looked and didn't see any. Did I miss something? And please remember, I don't have a $500 video card and won't. I need a pair of matched serial numbered Stainless Steel Ruger Vaqueros and a loaded diesel Suburban in British racing green with grey leather interior more. I still have a really cool skin for my Spit IX and I'm not worried about it. And thanks to whoever made said skin. Now I'll go get the rest of 'em. And Jug, it's heh, heh, heh not hee hee. Sunray; hehehe...I spent a hour and a half trying to find them myself. Just click on the Fighter Squadron link from the Simfiles' main page, and scroll through all the files - if I recall, they are about 60% to 75% of the way down the page. Both are 3+ Mb, and numbered 1 and 2. I forget the exact name of them, but they contain the words Hires.. Take that back...about 1/3 the way down the page: called Hi Res AC Skin support zip1 and zip2. ------------------ nealg=FC= [This message has been edited by nealg (edited 08-05-2001).] IP: Logged |

The problem with the Lulubelle scheme is that unless someone with OPS experience sends you an sm file, you can't see it in 1024. It only works on the beta f4u1a correctly too. Eventually all the corsairs will be mapped like that one. I think Jedi has been in the process of doing this. Think of the Jolly Rogers and "Pappy" schemes as beta skins They will work and look cool later on, or now for those that can change the 1a sm file in OPS file. I have an old tnt 1 card sitting in the closet, but I didn't know it could display 1024. Are you gents sure on that? PSI needs one and I could send it to him. IP: Logged |

Oh, see what I mean about it only working on the 1a? The mapping on the wings is all wrong and shares textures with the tail. Jedi and Razer changed the wing mapping a lot and it'll look nicer on the 1a and all the Hogs will have it like that eventually. Sorry, I didn't see the pic Blacksheep posted at first. IP: Logged |

Be patient I hope to have the -1A ready for public consumption very soon. I think I only have a few glitches left to fix and it will work properly with the patch AND 1.5 standard.Mapping "errors" have also been fixed. This may have a small impact on the older skins...
