Topic: Deleting Plane Folders?

I read somewhere about some game and mission editor corruption occuring due to there being too many folders in the aircraft folder. Therefore, since I was experiencing this problem, after I installed PP6, I went into my aircraft folder and deleted the plane folders which did not have things in them (the ones with the canopy options were left in). Then I just added folders for planes I needed to (to change skins, etc.). I figured this was OK since the original game did not have folders for the individual aircraft outside of the PAR files.Overall, it worked perfectly. However, a few select planes would not show up in the mission editor or the hangar unless I put a folder in for it, although the folder was empty. Then they worked/showed up fine. Why might this occur? Curious more than anything else. ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! IP: Logged |

That my friend is a par file bug. Harman_5 and I have gotten that before... For some reason if all your aircraft are in parfiles, and you DONT have any empty directories in the aircraft folder, the par file will "skip over" some random aircraft and not read it. It may be related to the length of the filename of that aircraft aswell... Actually, if all you have installed is PP6 or PP6.1 then you shouldnt be getting the mission editor corruption problem at all! What the mission editor problem boils down to is this: The GUI can only handle a certain amount of loadout.ppf files with so many loadout options... I know its a loadout option problem because when I would "skimp" down the loadout options for each aircrafts loadout.ppf file, the corrupted text in the mission editor would change. (If you dont add any new aircraft and dont get rid of any loadout options, the corrupted text would always be the same) IMO this problem is VERY severe and needs to be fixed and looked into by the patch team. I agree with Argon, this realy needs to be addressed, we talked about this some time ago, and is memory serves the corruption occures with you have 100+ aircraft, BUT, it's not the number of aircraft, it's the size of the loadout files, Argon removed all the forigen language from the loadout and the corruption went away. The problem is loadouts are being made bigger now, so the problem will arise sooner, myself I prefere more detailed loadouts, so whatever is causinf the bug realy needs to be found and fixedIP: Logged |

before I broke my computer (fixed now) I had a slight problem where text got swappede round, ie one of the towns on Dover was named the hanger description for the me-262, and the hanger description for the plane was Twyford!IP: Logged |

I've found this happens when the folder with the planes (or vehicles) name is too long. I had one vehicle folder under Media\aircraft\ with a name "HalftrackAAA" packed into a PAR file and it wouldn't show in the training and hangar sections. I renamed it to "M16" and re-packed it into the PAR file and it showed up fine. I think it's best to keep the plane folder names below 8 characters or so, that's what I will be doing for the next GP because I plan to put that into a PAR file.------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online Future Home Of FS:SDOE Online HERE IP: Logged | |
