Does the colour depth used for the desktop
affect anything in SDOE?

My system is:
Celeron 600 o/c to 900
256 Mb RAM
GeForce MX SDR 32Mb (ELSA board)
Soundblaster Live Value soundcard
Windows 2000
Latest drivers.

If I start up the Ju88G7b ground attack
training mission I get about 20 to 30 fps
at 1024x768 resolution whereas I am sure
when I was using windows 98 and a Voodoo 3
2000 I was getting much much more than this
when running the 1.5000 patch.

I have used GTU 3.03 to tweak things for
fast settings. I do have max detail on in
the options, but tracer smoke turned off.

On the graphics side, vsync is off, and I
have set dxdiag to force 85Hz refresh (what
my monitor can handle at 1024x768)

I am using a desktop at 1024x768 with 32
bit colour depth. Since SDOE has no controls
in the 1.5 patch to specify colour and Z
buffer depths, is it using 32 bit colour
and 24 it Z by default? 32 bit colour has
quite a performance hit on the GeForce 2 MX!

Thanks

no, desktop color doesn't matter, SDOE runs in 16bit color regardless of your desktop, maybe some one with an MX card can help you more, I use a Voodoo3

I used to use a Voodoo 3 too, which gave
possibly better frame rates on SDOE than
the Geforce 2 MX, but I upgraded when I
found a good offer on an MX so I could be
compatible with WB3 - which still isn't in
paid production!
