My game creeps whenever I fire the guns or drop bombs. This happens online and in single play. I can deal with it(barely)in single play, but it ruins the online experience.

Here's my system specs:

AMD K6II, 450mhz, 132mb memory, Voodoo 3500, plenty of room on the HD, Creative AWE64 soundcard. All the drivers are current to the best of my knowledge.

I'm running the game on a 21 inch monitor at 8x6. My horizons/fog, etc. are at the minimum settings. My texture and object detail is at about half or seventy-five percent.

The game is all patched up current.

So, what gives?

your CPU is nowhere near good enough, believe me 100% on that, I just upgraded from a K62-550 V3 2000 192MB ram and the game was always slow, but now since I upgraded to a Duron 900 but have all the same stuff other than that, the game plays fine with no problems at all. Conclusion, the CPU is to slow, but you knew that already I think.

The cause is simply that there's alot going on when you fire guns, new textures to draw, new sound for each gunfire, and when you drop bombs you have new sounds and a new flight model becomes activated, all this is just overloading the CPU.

Squeehee, are you using any custom sounds? They tend to be more complex than the standard sounds. If so, you may want to remove them temporarily and see if the problem is as bad.

Also, offline missions with a lot of ships and other ground objects strain the cpu. If you are familiar with the mission editor try removing some of them.

I lived with a PII 266 until a few months ago and struggled with this a lot. Do you also get blocky explosions?

Jerry, no problem with explosions, they seem to work fine, if a bit slowly. I do have some custom sounds in, which I'll remove and see what happens. Seems like anytime I'm attacking a flight of Ju88's in this current, offline, campaign it's a real slideshow. I suppose that's because of all the guns.

I played an online game with two other guys last night that actually seemed to go real smooth. However, I STILL can't hit a damn thing. Seems like everytime I'd line up for a shot the gunsight would skew one way or the other, and thats with no headshake! I forgot how hard it was to get kills in this game. Not complaining though. I suppose this is much more realistic than the old straight-shootin, laser guided gun platforms of Fighter Ace and EAW.
