This is getting frustrating now. I've posted about this already, but the problem still exists. After about 5 minutes into a mission (different missions) I start to get lines flashing through my screen and the ground gets large colored blocks (usually grouped together i.e. mountain tops, airfields).
I have an AMD Tbird 900mhz (big fat heat sink and fan), with 192 meg Ram, Nvidia Riva TNT2 M64 32 meg video card (with heat sink and fan), and Windows ME. The case has a fan pulling air in from the lower front, another pulling out through the mid-back, plus the standard Power supply fan.
I have this problem with no beta patches installed (just 1.5), Nations 2.0 and PP 6.0. I flew a mission last night with 3 B17s, FW and P51s and the clouds were one solid white layer and the puffy clouds under that cloud layer were squares.
I've seen this problem posted, I've posted it before and the answer is that my video chip is running hot.
Help me please

This is most probably a problem with your video card. I bought a TNT2 M64 32meg as well as while ago to replace my existing TNT1 and whatever I tried, SDOE just froze about 3 minutes into the mission and it really peeved me off because I hated the prospect of going back to my old 8mb card. Surprisingly, the frame rates weren't improved too much compared to my old TNT1.

In the end, I took the card back and got RAM instead. Your processor is probably not the problem, 900mhz is good enough and you seem to have more than enough cooling.

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling SDOE? Maybe the texture caches are corrupted? Try deleting the "sdoecache.tex" file in your media folder. If the problem is still there, do a complete reinstall of SDOE.

If this doesn't work, then it's most probably your card, I heard from people that the M64 models are just marginally better than the TNT1 cards. Do you have another card lying around? Maybe try installing that.

I hope you solve the problem.

No-I don't believe its a video card problem as many have posted about the blocky cloud and smoke textures before. I've got a V5 and have experienced these textures in it and on my older Voodoo3.

It tends to depend on how many and what types of planes are in a mission for some reason. And I'm sure there are other issues that have been mentioned but so far no one has a fix for this.

Don't pin this one on the video card yet.

Try updating the drivers for the video card. Or disable the clouds and see if it fixes it.

I am noticing that the cloud and blocky flak seems to go along with certain missions or combinations of aircraft within a mission. The B17 seems to be a big culprit, though not always. I flew one (retail version) mission last night with B17's, P51's, 109's and the small clouds and flak were squares, and the cloud layer was one solid white blanket across the sky, but the video corruption didn't happen. Then I flew another one (The Gabes Bridge I believe) which had 17's, 38's, spits, and 109's and the clouds were just fine though about 10 minutes into the mission the video went haywire with the lines across the screen and the ground going psychedelic. I took some screen shots of my problem last night and will probably include them in a post later today so all can see.
Just for S & G, I let the AI fly a mission by itself (with a bunch of A/c) with the side cover off my computer (to check for overheating) and didn't get any video corruption. Then after that is when I played the missions described above (with the cover off the computer) and ran into the problems.
The TNT2 is a new card for me. I got the TNT2 card through Ebay (brand new OEM). No other games have shown these problems (don't have any other flight sims, but have played Descent Freespace with no prob).
My old system was an AMD K6-2 300 with 96 meg of RAM and a Blaster Banshee 3dFX 16 meg card and I never had a problem with video other than low frame rates (which is why I stopped playing for a while).
How does one post pictures to this board so I can show my problem later via pictures? Or if someone is interested I can email them.
Thanks guys. As frustrating as this problem is becoming, I know everyone who can help will try. This is a great group of people we have here.

Oh yeah, I have reinstalled FS a number of times. Tried it with the 1.5.2.6 beta patch (didn't do too well with that one at all). I have Nvidia reference driver 6.50 installed which is the latest one for this card (though I've seen drivers up to 7.62. which I have, but haven't installed), and according to sites I've visited, 6.5 is the most current one for my card so I've stuck with it.

The more aircraft that are in the game at any given moment, the harder it is for your cpu/video card to render. As I recall the Gabes mission is light on aircaft at the start then 'heats' up considerably when you get to the bridge. This is likely what's causing the blocking. Also, the B17's are pigs on frame rates due to the number of parts it takes for the game to produce the picture. (This is why we can't have thousand plane raids in the game. One of the guys posted a picture a few months ago with about 60 B-17's. Really slick but a frame rate of 2)The total result is the game tries to render everything but, I think, it prioritises to the aircraft so clouds get squared off. Shut off the clouds in the options menu under dislay, I think and it should perk up.

This sounds highly reminiscent of my CURRENT problems with VooDoo 5 card, which I posted, probably in the wrong place in the General thread.

Could you just look across there to see if it tallies up at all with your experience please?

I have got Figher Squadron to work in VooDoo5 by limiting the texture memory to 2MB using Voodoo 4+ Runner. No problems since.
