I don't get it....SDOE ran fine for 2 months on my AMD K6 II 550 MHZ and Voodoo 3000. Then sudenly right as it gets ready to run...a black screen and......nothing. I've tried numerous reinstalls of SDOE Voodoo drivers DirectX 8b etc and nothing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I have this problem occasionally and have spotted the following culprits:

Dos window left open
Another program open using D3D (ex. I can't have OPS open and launch SDOE)
My joystick profile program- this one is hit and miss and only started happening after I upgraded the software to the newest version.
The above problems keep SDOE from booting to the menu screen.

Does it go to a black screen on the initial load or after you've picked a mission?

This black screen of death on every mission/terrains or just of particular ones?

are you maybe using the 1.04 drivers and trying to use a D3D res of higher than 1600x1200? The older drivers wont allow above that resolution (I have same spec, AMD 550 with V3)

Well to answer your questions (thanks for the interest)
1.black screen on ANY mission
2.Black screen AFTER I pick the Mission and
3.I will shut down any OPS that I can and then maybe find the sneaky culpret...maybe

I shut down all applications that I could from the msconfig menu. Still black screen after terrain, airports, cities, aircraft, etc. loads up!?!?!?

Have you checked that the desktop resolution is set as high as it will go? This worked for my VooDoo5 (nearly - see other posts!)

I have got Figher Squadron to work in VooDoo5 by limiting the texture memory to 2MB using Voodoo 4+ Runner. No problems since.
