What are some things I can try to get rid of really bad pausing going on when flying SDOE? I never had trouble like this, now it's constant.thanks IP: Logged |

This may be a long shot, but you *MAY* have accidently activated the recording feature in SDOE. Once activated in the keyboard.inp, Shift Z (toggle) does this and while it's on, it will slow SDOE down to a crawl. If you keep this on long enough, you'll run out of disk space because of all the recorded .bmps! ------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online IP: Logged |

I could be that the quanity of textures cached in system memory (not video memory) has gone back to the default 10megs. I remember this being a problem when I first ran the game, as the harddisk was constantly accessed. Changing the memory cache to 60 megs sorted this out.IP: Logged |

Are you using Win2k? If so check the error log for infinite loop waiting for texture messages.Hell, check the error log anyway. Maybe a clue. Try sticking a CD (any old one) in the CD drive. [This message has been edited by JG3_Jetlag (edited 03-23-2001).] IP: Logged |

I had a huge framerate hit and pausing- I'd left a CD that had some read errors in the cd drive and forgot about it. Once I removed it, everything worked ok.Sometimes this problem can be caused by the silliest things. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

That was it! I had a recordable CD in my burner that I forgot was there. I removed it and all is well. (whew!)Nothing can be so annoying as that pausing. Thank goodness it's gone. THANKS!!!! IP: Logged |

LOL-Basically thats what happened to me Pete. The CD was in the burner and since it had read errors, the burner was trying to decide whether it was blank or not. Too funny ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question IP: Logged |

Mine didn't have any errors on it, it works fine. But for some reason the game attempts to look at it or something.IP: Logged |

I had a similar but opposite problem a long time ago. The game would would go into stop-motion mode during explosions. I never figured out what was causing it, but the final cure was putting a CD into the drive. I knew those AOL CDs were good for something.IP: Logged |

Pete-A CD burner will continue to try and access a blank CD or a CD with major errors (if the errors are bad enough it appears as a blank CD to the burner) on it. Why- I dunno. You'd need to ask the people that make them. Jetlag- next time that happens see if you have play Cd music turned on in options. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question [This message has been edited by Da Jug head (edited 03-25-2001).] IP: Logged |
