I just don't get it. I get a new computer...faster, stronger, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound and FS has more problems than it did on my old system. I was flying a training mission with (I believe) the beaufighter and about 3 minutes into it the video starts going funky (jumpy colored lines, colored blocks where ground objects should be. Why is this? (AMD tbird 900, 192 meg RAM, 32 meg Nvidia TNT2 M64 video card, Directx 8.0a and Windows ME). On another note, with this new install with Planepack 6 and Nations 2.0 what do I have to do to make use of the other Nations and aircraft? I still only have the 3 standard countries. And are all the new aircraft available to me? Or do I have to make missions to take advantage of all the new things? Thanks for any ideas, or help.IP: Logged |

on the Nations side, thats down to your mission I think you'll find.. have you built a new mission and asigned an aircraft to a squadron from say Russia? Have you tried the training missions where all the nations are listed?IP: Logged |

If you're not seeing any other contries listed then I'm guessing that the Nations 2 install did not go well. If it's a zip file (which mine is) then read the read me as a commen mistake is to un pack to the FS directory when if fact it needs to be extracted to the media directory. Also I found problems when installing pp6 first as some of the aircraft had no where to go so I always install in this order1.5 patch nations v2 pp6 IP: Logged |

Check the seating of the heatsink/fan combo on your CPU. This sounds like an overheating problem. Tbird chips are VERY sensitive to this. In fact I'd recommend anyone building their own system to have the vendor install the heatsink & fan on the newer AMD CPU's for you. AMD has an incredible return rate from burned out chips. Even pre-built systems have been known to burn out the Tbird from overheating.TNT2 chips will also overheat if pushed too hard (as will most of the newer graphics chips), if you don't have a fan on the video card heat sink, you might want to consider one Your case should have a spot in the front for another fan. If you don't have one installed, I'd add one. Also, make sure you have the following settings turned OFF in your bios Video Bios or shadow cache VGA palette snoop or DCA snoop Hiden refresh Byte merge Your BIOS may not have all of these settings, just ensure the ones you have are turned off. ------------------ "Where'd he GO!?!?" thunk-thunk-thunk-zing-OUCH That answered my question

Thanks Bulldog. I do believe that is the problem with the Nations install. Would be nice if it said to do that, instead of having to ask, but I've learned to put up with these triflings when it come to this game. Jug head, I know my CPU is good to go. My motherboard has temp sensors built in and they are always way below cutoff. I even installed a second case fan, though it's recommended that it be at the back of the case sucking air through the case and out the back (so that's what I did). My TNT2 chip has a cooling fan on it too. I wasn't even running FS in a mission when the video corruption took place. Just trying out some training (3 aircraft in the air). I'll have to check on my BIOS settings in a couple weeks (out to sea for a bit right now). I'm pretty sure "shadow cache is an option, but the others don't sound familiar. I still have difficulty understanding all these problems I'm running into though. As I said in the first post, I'm running a much better computer with a much better video card and FS is having more video related problems than it ever did on my old system (actually I never had video problems with the old system other than crappy frame rates). The blocky clouds, airfields turning into rainbow blocks, pretty colored lines all over the screen. I just don't get it. Hopefully I'll get it all worked out one day. Thanks for the help.
