I am returning to FS after a long hiatus. Got tired of my old computer not performing well with the game. Now I have an AMD Tbird 900, 192 meg of ram, 32 meg Nvidia RIVA TNT 2 M64 video card, Directx 8.0 and I'm ready to fly. Installed FS, installed patch 1.5, PP 6.0 and Nations 2.0 (in that order) with no other installs (mods, etc). Game looks beautiful (seeing 40-60 fps is amazing when you were used to 20 being your max with 1 plane in the air). Problem I'm having is the screen is rather dark and the keyboard hotkeys (shift= or -) doesn't work to chang the gamma. I tried modifying the sdemons.ini brightness setting (from .75 up to 10.0) with no change. What the hell am I doing wrong? Other problem is the blocky clouds (noticed in a few missions and even the hangar flights). I didn't have this problem when I was running my old AMD K6-2 with 16meg Banshee 3DFX card. I see this is a common problem, but why is it happening now that I have a better system? I've seen mention of not enough RAM or Hot chip. Impossible is all I can say to that (based on the comparison of my old to my new system). I'm glad to be back. Might even try flying online again (never got good, but so what).IP: Logged |

I tried it with a TNT1, and my new GF2 MX card, and have the same gamma problems. No blocky clouds, but ac labels flicker badly online. Tried everything I knew, couldn't get the gamma to reset, so I am back to my Voodoo2 for SDOE in Glide. Think it's something to do with D3D; mayhap OpenGL will improve it.Even the gamma would have been liveable had the cockpits not been so dark. Spit was the worst, and that is my preferred mount.

I just upgraded from a V3 to a GeForce2 GTS. There is definitely a gamma problem in D3D that's not in Glide. Go to your cards' Settings screen and adjust Gamma or Brightness there. The settings in SDOE Control or the ini file don't help enough. On my card you can save custom settings and run them just with SDOE, so it doesn't overly brighten everything else.IP: Logged |

so, what you're really saying, is there is no problem with D3D, but a problem with those cards, since D3D seems ok for everyone else using it on other boards then this must be a Nvidia problem.Sadly though since I'm a voodoo user I really can't offer any adivce, other than as has been mentioned, trying to set the gamma correction via the card itself rather than the game, I know this can be done with voodoo. No, it's a SDOE problem. Even when I had my V3 if I ran in D3D it was too dark. SDOE has a number of D3D problems, this is just one of them. Fortunately, this one can be hacked by making video adjustments with the card.IP: Logged |
