I am returning to FS after a long hiatus. Got tired of my old computer not performing well with the game. Now I have an AMD Tbird 900, 192 meg of ram, 32 meg Nvidia RIVA TNT 2 M64 video card, Directx 8.0 and I'm ready to fly. Installed FS, installed patch 1.5, PP 6.0 and Nations 2.0 (in that order) with no other installs (mods, etc). Game looks beautiful (seeing 40-60 fps is amazing when you were used to 20 being your max with 1 plane in the air). Problem I'm having is the screen is rather dark and the keyboard hotkeys (shift= or -) doesn't work to chang the gamma. I tried modifying the sdemons.ini brightness setting (from .75 up to 10.0) with no change. What the hell am I doing wrong? Other problem is the blocky clouds (noticed in a few missions and even the hangar flights). I didn't have this problem when I was running my old AMD K6-2 with 16meg Banshee 3DFX card. I see this is a common problem, but why is it happening now that I have a better system? I've seen mention of not enough RAM or Hot chip. Impossible is all I can say to that (based on the comparison of my old to my new system). I'm glad to be back. Might even try flying online again (never got good, but so what).
