Hey Guys, well I just got mail back from 3D Action Planet.com, I've asked them for hosting since they allow full cgi and php scripting, they agreed to my site being hosted by them, but before they will something needs to change.. and we all know what it is.. the general look of the site.My site needs basicaly to look something along the lines of Razer site, in other words "clean" If somebody here would like to either 1. Do me a page design similar to Razers, or 2. same as 1 plus be joint webmaster, then please let me know. 3Dactionplanet.com is a sister of classicgames.com, very well known through the gaming world, but they have no SDOE site, having my site hosted by them will give us great advertising, but will also finally allow me to setup a user upload area where any of you can upload your work to. This is free hosting with unlimited scripting, webspace and bandwidth.. i.e. everything a good site needs, and with some help this could be pretty damn good. I have a Frames template setup for the main page, but I need things like simle graphics, you'll know what I mean if you compair my site to Razers. Any help is really appreciated with this. ~Nat~ ------------------ 7./JG3 "Naturlich" "SDOE... I'm willing to take a look at it but time may be an issue. Why?1. I've been helping out GT with the BTR campaign he's been putting together and have just finished a web design for it. and 2. I've just been laid off! What fun. Consequently, I'll be spending a lot of time searching for a job. That said, I've been moving in the web design direction with my career and the more experience I can get the better. If you think you might want me to help out, check out my site (in my signature below, you may also want to go up to the main 3dp site, link at the bottom of the page, to see a little more) and this alpha version (only the History link works) of the BTR site to get an idea of my work. I very much favor simple sites and and try to keep them as clean as possible. ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! Thanks 3dp, any and all help is appreciated, if you're pussed for time then even just designing ghe index page would be a great help, atleast then I can copy the format over to all my other pages, I'm using Frames now (hope thats not a problem) so the main parts are:Banner Contents Navigator Main After these the other pages wont be any problem, they will mostly be plain and in the same color code etc as the Main page. I'll zip up what I've done and mail it over to you for you to look at, time isn't a big thing, always the sooner the better of course, but I'd take a long time to get it right (if I could) myself, so no worries, I'm just glad of the offer to help Thanks 3dp, zipping/mailing now P.S. the link above to Bombing the Reich is about what they are looking for I believe, nice, clear and simple (er.. don't take that the wrong way, but if you've seen my site you'll know what I mean lol) IP: Logged |

The BTR site may be simple 3dp, but it has CLASS. That's one VERY good looking site. (Emphasis on the VERY)IP: Logged |

Is something like this what you had in mind? In the interest of speed, the main site logo utilizes the same two aircraft which my suggested FSIC banner does (see The Site section on this messageboard). I can always change the other if using it ever becomes a real possibility, so there's no obvious duplication.------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! Aside from anything which may come up as you flesh it out, is there anything else you need or should I zip it up and send it to you? I did just add a Feedback button as I realized I had forgotten one before.A word about the Content frame: I did not put as many links there as you had on your old site. Many of them were very specific, like "Snowy Dover" or "SDOP". I'm a firm believer in keeping the contents as simple as is prudent. If you want to 'advertise' something specific or new, I recommend simply giving it a mention on your main start page and refering folks to the 'Downloads' section, or the 'Mission' section, whatever is relevant. In fact, given that four of the nine links to the left are download related and that the 'Skins', 'Aircraft', and 'Missions' are so specific, I would recommend changing 'Downloads' to 'Terrain' and then eliminating the Tutorial link since the tutorial could then be located under the 'Terrain' link since that's what it deals with. What do you think? It also occurs to me to mention that the image placeholders in the bottom frame are 75% the size of the banners downloaded from Bravenet. As a rule, I'm not crazy about squashing images as they don't look good when doing so. That said, they were 'squashed' on the old site and I'd just as soon lose the big one in the middle, but I assume you have to have it? Therefore, 'squashing' them doesn't bother me that much! If they're not required, I'd consider losing the central stuff since it does not directly contribute to the site, and then either line up the Guestbook and Chat links horizontally so the height of the frame could be shortened, or eliminate the bottom frame altogether and move the Guestbook and Chat links into the contents frame at the left. ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! Sure 3dp, that should easily be enough for me to touch up now, so if you can zip it and kick it over that'd be cool,as you were saying about the links, what I shall probably do is link to a new section for downloads with subsections for terrains, groundunits, skins, untilities etc, I had that planed before but it's another one of those things that I never got round to doing with the site. Those buttons/webmaster adverts I have to have so I didn't mind squeezing them a little, keeping them out of the way as best I can. Again though, thanks alot for helping me out with this, mad though aint it, with textires and aircraft I can be artisyic.. but with my site.. forget it lol Cheers 3dp ~Nat~ IP: Logged |

Ok then! It will be on its way ASAP. Things to keep in mind:- The contents frame is geared to a width of 130 pixels. If you want to add any fixed width items (images or tables) to it which require a wider column width, have me redo the background "clouds" GIF to be wider. - Also in the contents area, just let me know if you need any additional or replacement GIFs (using the same fonts and effects) and I'll make them and send them out ASAP. - As you develop the main area content, please feel free to ask for any additional stuff you might need. Major heading GIFs in the same style as the banner and contents spring to mind. If you want to notify me by email when it's up but not announced so I can look it over any give any suggestions, please don't hesitate. Finally, I hope you don't mind the "Site designed by 3dp" credit at the very bottom of the contents frame. I've recently been laid off and am trying to get into the web design field. Anything which gets someone looking my way may be helpful! ------------------ Be seeing you, 3dp Visit RAF Harkness! [This message has been edited by 3dp (edited 03-11-2001).] IP: Logged |

Thanks 3dp, hey, if you hadn't put the credit on there I would have, the site design was always going to be credited to you I'll start rebuilding this evening then I can shoot a mail off to Action Planet again for them to go "inspect" the site, then fingers crossed they'll host it with the new clean look I'm sure I'll be mailing you in the near future for buttons or sumthin but for now, really big thanks for what you've done, it really is appreciated ~Nat~ IP: Logged | |
