I just bought a new computer...it is a significant upgrade. I notice that my joystick is much more sensitive...the planes are more twitchy and it's easy to lose control in sharp turns. I have a MS Sidewinder which I know is a problem but I had it under control before with the Stickworks program.

My question is this: would a faster CPU, faster video card and faster FPS make the planes more responsive to joystick input?

Thanks

Interesting question.

There are 2 rates in SDOE, the video framerate and the simuation rate.

These come up in the sdemon.ini file as
DesiredDisplayRate=XX
DesiredSimRate=XX

This is something I hadn't thought of. The sim rate determines how many times a second the physics are calculated. With a slower CPU and less memory, the chances of reaching the desired sim rate if it's over 10 are greatly reduced. With a beefier computer, this is easier to obtain.

Mine is set at 20. With the problems I've been having with certain aircraft, I think I'll play with this and see what happens, You may want to give this a try too.

It just hit me when I read your post that some of these issues cropped up when I added an extra 128MB of ram to my computer.

Jerry, to answer your question.. YES

I did the same thing, full upgrade, after that it took me a while to learn how to fly again, it's not that the system is more responsive, more that it can keep up with what you are doing, whereas your old machine wasn't fast enough to keep up, this has the effect of seemily dulling responsiveness when in fact, all that was happening was you would make movements that would conteract previous movement before it was carried out to it's full (hope you understand that)
