it is a fictional piece of pacificy terrain. I have also been working off and on on some island type terrain too. That also is fictional.

The main problem with making a realistic piece of pacific, is that most of it was water.....the land areas were very complex, and most of the interesting areas don't fit into a 40mile by 40 mile box. Midway was close to real, and was just water with an island in the corner.....I am working on a variant of that terrain, with Aircraft carriers for the other airfields.

WT,
thanks for your answer. I want to make some missions for that terrain and wonder about the location.

The Pacific terrain is very generic but, the names of airfields and towns are from the Solomon Island group....except for the town and airfield of Louisa, that's my wife's name. A small concession for the SDOE Widow's Club.

I hear ya TG. 40 square miles is way too small if you want to be REAL.

This isn't really a problem as most of the time was spent flying over open expanses of water, and the action (most of the time) didn't occur until close to the target. All you'd have to do is map the common islands (yes, I know it would require different terrains for each island, but if 90% of it's water, that cuts down on the texture mapping work).

You start the attacking force in the air and have them end in the air.

I got a couple of island things knocking around. Not had the time to really work on them though!

First up is midway. I want to re-do that one with a really nice island. Now I have sorted the texture thing, it should be really easy. Diego made an all water terrain ( well, I nagged him for it! ) and this will form the base for the whole thing.

Also, I noticed in the parsoft 'island' the water and the land were seperate SM files. They just refernce the water in the land model. Make a few islands, position them at the right height, reference the water...job done!

I plan to do a really quick job using some bits of Diego's Africa re-paint. Slice out the bits, paste them on, dress them up a bit ( got some ideas for jungle to try ) and I may even be able to re-use the airfields!

just need some free time to throw it all together!
