After I reinstalled SDOE after my MTX attack, I installed DX8 at the same time. BIG MISTAKE. Also, it seems William's minions have successfully gotten uninstall progs yanked from sites across the net. Anyone have an uninstaller program? I would really appreciate it. FS online is just about impossible for me without it. Thanks in advance, Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

MS website warns you that you can't uninstall DX8 that the only way to remove it is to reinstall your OS. IP: Logged |

Methinks he knoweth that . There were some non-microsoft uninstallers around, but MS have made a lot of sites remove them.------------------ www.luftwaffe.net IP: Logged |

Thanks Razer. I discovered that myself zipping around the net after three hours of rebooting my computer interrupted by two 5 minute stints in Junkers. I found .exe files for uninstallers posted in a few places, but I've also read horror stories of uninstalls-gone-wrong that I'm going to pursue another option until I upgrade my system. I hope my incompatability is between Dx8 and Banshee, not Dx8 and Fighter Squadron.Anyone here run FS with DX8 successfully? Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Not sure what this does, but I am saving it for a last resort. I hope dx8a fixes my texture display problem which I believe is being caused by my upgrade to Dx8. http://www.ebrink.com/dxun/downloads.html Your right though, it sounds very risky to do. ------------------ Condor out IP: Logged |

The best and sure fire way to uninstall DX8 is this:Run DX Diagnostic Click on the DirectX Files Tab Write down every file you see Find every file you wrote down and back them up somewhere Restart the computer in Safe Mode Delete every one of those files you wrote down Reboot Windows Install DXwhateverversion If you have to, install DXwhateverversion in Windows Safe Mode P.S. I have DX8 installed and it works fine with SDOE. P.P.S. I dont play SDOE on-line P.P.P.S. The above method does work. Many many moons ago I did this when I wanted to go from DX6 back to DX5. I did not pick that up from a web site. I just guessed that if I deleted those files, DX would be "uninstalled" [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 01-27-2001).] IP: Logged |

This wouldn't be the first time I've had to hang my head in shame and take a broken computer in for massive fixing because I tried to 'do it myself'. At least one person has Dx8 and SDOE in harmony, so I know that eventually this too shall pass for me. As pointed out to me by a squaddie earlier today, it's likely my Voodoo Banshee showing its age. Brilliant card, runs SDOE with 60+ fps in your average mission, but even before Nvidia bought 3dfx new drivers were few and far between. In anticipation of IL2 I'm planning on upgrading to a P3 800 Mhz with GeForce 2 and as much RAM as I can afford, at least 256 MB, hopefully lots more.I'm hoping that the newer board will be able to tolerate Dx8, and I'll be back in the skies. ETA on upgrade is late feb, waiting for a paycheck to get through the system at work first. Werner ------------------ Visit Abbeville Field Today! IP: Logged |

Werner; I just checked www.reactorcritical.com and the DX Uninstaller I have read about being used successfully is still there. I cannot vouch for it, have never used it, but have read of others' success with it.As with all things, I guess, 'use with care'. I presume what works for the gander still doesn't always work with a goose ( or - is that withOUT a goose? ). ------------------ nealg=FC= IP: Logged |

Oh what a simple joy it is to run stable again!I can't believe it, in the space of two minutes I went from nothing to having d/led the fix, run it, and reinstalled Dx7!! tested it online with Spin, and it worked like magic! Thanks to everyone, and in the unlikely event someone searches the forum to find info on Microsoft DirectX 8 - It doesn't work with Voodoo Banshee!
