What's the final verdict on the V5? I have the latest final drivers (I haven't put the newer beta ones in). In D3D it looks like crap! I love the high resolution, but the warping of the distant terrain and flashing of instruments and 3d objects is extremely annoying.
In Glide, you can only get 800 X 600, and it only really looks good with 4x Antialiasing which means lower frame rates.

Did anyone ever figure out what the best settings are for this card and SDOE? I haven't tried the beta, which I think allows higher res in Glide, but I fly online when I fly.

Esox,
I usually run SDOE in 800x600 in Glide with 4xFSAA and I think it runs and looks really great. I also am running the latest beta drivers and thought I'd see if I could run it in 1024x768. Sooo--
It runs fine in 4xFSAA but you still have to recenter the screen with the Ctrl and plus keys. There is some tiny graphical banding going on at the bottom of the screen though. But overall, it works fine on my machine.

I just can't see much improvement over 800x600 to make the extra work worthwhile. My monitor only supports up to 1024x768 so I can't test any higher.

Can't really help you too much with the best settings. What I have set may not be the best--although I have no complaints in 800x600.
I do recommend a neat little program called Voodoo4+Runner for all Voodoo4's and 5's.
It allows you to set the configuration for your Voodoo5 for different games and then launch the game from the program on your task bar. Some games I run in D3D with no antialiasing and some in Glide , some with only 2xFSAA. So what's nice is I don't have to change the settings before launcing each game since I simply launch the game from V4+Runner and it makes the changes automatically.

You also can use it to get more performance out of OpenGL games with a new feature that I really don't understand yet called Hidden Surface Removal, which the new beta drivers are supposed to support to make the V5 as quick or quicker than the GeForce cards in the OpenGL renderer. Wouldn't know if it worked or not since I don't run anything but X-Plane in OpenGL and don't have anything to compare it too. I do like the Voodoo4+Runner program a lot though.
You can get it here_ www.glideunderground.com/voodoorunner

OK, just realized that I hadn't checked to see if 2xFSAA would work in Glide at 1024x768 and I'm pleased to say that it does.
However, Fastest Performance mode in any resolution is still torqued (or is that porked?) in SDOE. Very strange lines all over the place and totally unplayable.

Thanks Arthur!

That program is great, because I think I'll definitely want diferent settings for diferent sims.
