There are many here who may be able to help with this; I can suggest a couple of things to look into, but hopefully one of the experienced network guys will see this and post. This is not uncommon, it happens more frequently than we'd like, so you are not alone. I do not believe it has anything to do with your installation. First, check your internet connection/ISP. Do you have any problems online with any other games? Does your ISP use a particular firewall, or, alternatively, do you? Once a game launches, it becomes peer to peer, so the host of the game is technically the 'host' computer; something in your Internet or Online setup may be getting a 'hack' type message and shutting you off, or thinking that a illegal port is being used and closing that port.
I am far from knowledgeable about these things, but that is one possibility, though my terminology may be wrong. Perhaps Mighty or Spanky or Tailslide might have a better explanation and point you in the right direction. Good luck, and hope to see ya online again! ( Sorry if a lot of this you already knew; I wasn't sure. And maybe you added a firewall or changed ISP's recently? )
