Hans: If you look in your FighterSquadron folder, you should see a folder beneath called Media. If you open that, you will see several folders under Media. The main one you want is the Aircraft folder; beneath this are folders for all the aircraft currently in the PP 6. The first thing you should do when getting a new plane is look in the file for a readme, before you unzip it; this will give you directions on installation if any special instructions need to be followed. Next ( and I recommend this to anyone using Zip files ) I would create a temp folder for unzipping SDOE aircraft and unzip the entire file into that. In this way, you can copy the needed files yourself to where they need to go once you become familiar with SDOE's directory structure. WinZip doesn't always unzip as it should, and some zipped files can get messed up also.Ok, next, look in your aircraft folder to see if a folder for the plane you are installing already exists; if it does, you won't need a entire new folder unless you want it. Let's use a example; say you want to install the B17G. Check your aircraft folder, and let's assume it is not already there. Left click on Aircraft...go up to Explorer's FILE tab....select New...select Folder...now, look for the new folder you created. It should be flashing blue...hit backspace, and type in B17G, and hit enter. You now have a B17G folder to install to...left click on the B17G folder, then File, New, Folder, and name the new folder Sounds, hit enter. Again, click on B17G, File, New, Folder, and name it Textures, hit enter. Any sound files for the B17G go, yes, into the Sounds folder; and skins, into the Textures folder.
Using the same scenario, and assuming you have unzipped the zip file to a temp directory, you can click on the B17G unzipped folder and copy it to Aircraft; this should create all the needed folders.
If you look through your Media/Aircraft folder, you will see that the existing planes all have a master folder bearing the plane name, and each has it's own Sounds and Textures folders. Under normal circumstances, sounds go into Sounds and skins into Textures, unless the creator has a special design. That is why readmes are so important. Also, there may be other files with the plane/skin/sound that need to go into other areas; using a temp unzip folder can help you in locating those.
If you decide to copy a entire folder over to replace a existing one, I encourage you to back up the original first....you just might want it back sometime.
Hope I haven't confused you, and hope this helps.
