Is there a way to make FSDOE load faster?
When I hit "Fly" for multiplayer online other pilots always seem to load faster and are in the game.
I don't use the "Conserve Hardrive" option.
I have tried deleting the cache.tex file a few times.
Even if I have just flown a terrain, when I start a new mission in the same terrain setting, it takes a few minutes to load terrain, as if it is doing it for the first time.
No one I have asked so far knows how to make it load any faster.
Thanks

Deleting the cache file will make it load slower not faster. Everytime you enter a new terrain it has to reload the textures if the cache file is empty.

Also, turn off your virus scan. It will load faster if not checking each file for viruses.

Are you defraggng often?

I have been defragging regularly. I dont always empty the cache file but sometimes I try it just to see if a fresh loadup of the terrain will make it load faster the second time.
I will try turning off my anti virus, that is one thing I havnt tried.

I thought everyones game loaded that slow until I flew online with others.

I enjoy the game a lot, the slow load is only an annoyence.

Thanks for the tip

How much memory do you have in your machine? The speed might depend on how much Windows has set aside as a disk cache.

Also, you might make certain that you don't have your CD-ROM on the same IDE chain as your hard disk. If you have a fast device and a slow device on the same ribbon cable then both will run at the speed of the slow device.

I have 96 RAM and I let Win98 manage it. As far as the IDE and CD it would appear in System manager file that they run independent but Im not positive, it's just how it shows on sytem manager window.

It doesn't look like you can tell from the Control Panel. You need to open up the computer and look at the physical connection.

Oh, and do you have anything else running? Like SETI@Home or something else that uses a lot of CPU cycles?
