I'm reading The Blond Knight at the mo' and I noticed that he used to close in real close for the kill, like 75 yards for the Il-2. I was just wondering how close can you get before your bullets jsut go through the other plane. It seems any clser than 200feet your bullets miss completely.

Thanks

Well,

I've shot down a 190 from 150 ft in SDOE.

According to one American ace, the definition of close is "when you think you're too close- get closer"

That answered my question

I think the way I heard it one time was, "Close until the enemy aircraft completely fills your canopy. Then move in for the kill."

As long as the guns are located correctly in the firing plane, the bullets shouldn't pass through the target. In fact, sitting on the ground, I've shot at other planes from about 50 feet.

I've not come across that problem yet myself, but I know what you're saying, well in testing with the IL2 I got within 10 feet of a spits tail and ripped him apart, you even hear evey bullet hit on them, so fro mwhat Mighty is saying I think it's an aircraft problem.

Oh, and may I suggest you try and get closer than that to the IL2 in SDOE.. LOL, that being said, the spitfire is terrible for bringing down aircraft that are very close.. the convergence is set way to far out, I've sat off an IL2s tail and let rip with the spit while aiming straight at the engine and cockpit.. and where do I hit? Well, I hit above the wheel housing on both wings! Hell I wasn't THAT close.. lol
Snake.. if you'd like to preview the IL2 let me know, it could be interesting for us both if you're reading about any battles with them

BTW I was asking about how close does the computer actually allow you to register hits when firing at the enemy in SDOE, not in actual combat but thanks anyway.

You can still register hits right up to the point you collide with the plane......

Discovered this now my upgraded pc is working. FR's are lots beter, and it gives the impression of flying much faster. Closing speeds seem higher....hence the collisions....

If your bullets seem to go 'through' it is almost certainly a problem with the plane you are shooting at. The Go229 had this problem with the engines. I had it with a modded B17 too. Face normals...or some such ...
