Howdy. I'm still getting the extremely amuzing flipping with the Jug, but only if it's on take off. Up graded my video driver without wrecking my machine, although I get some dots around all fonts. No big deal though, my FPS is a little higher in some missions. More video RAM is in the near future, 4 meg just ain't enough. Any thoughts about the Jug?

I doubt you have done this... but for lack of other ideas.. have you altered the game speed setting in the ini file? Although doing this can give you much better FPS, setting it to "low" will give you very strange reactions from aircraft FMs If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you haven't done it.. lol

If you get it when you start the engine, it is probably down to the smoke-on-startup thing. I got this when I tried to paste it onto a B17! The system uses a breaking DOF to trigger it, and if it doesn't break, you effectively have an object swinging with the prop, which will throw you all over the place! Delete the bits in OPS ( after backing up your Jug! ) and see if this helps!

The non-breaking DOF is a known bug of MH's 1.5.1 betas. I'm guessing you use one of them. If so, use 1.5 instead.

Sounds like a busted DOF to me from what ya'll have said as it is on engine start up. I'll have to have a look at it when I get home to my machine. As to the patch, can one just reinstall the 1.5? Or is there a way of deleting a patch? I'm not sure if I put the 1.5.1 patch on. Likely though. This having a direct internet connection is ok. That'd be no isp, no cable, nada. Download times are quick.

Duh, I should have asked this before, but I was still fuming after fighting with the bank this morning. Don't ask. What is a DOF and how do I know what bits to remove?
Thanks.

DOF means Degree Of Freedom, it is a description for the simulation engine on how a plane part should move. For example, ailerons use a rotation DOF, and opening canopy a translation DOF. DOFs describle movement but also mechanical properties such as damping.

The problem you're having with the Jug is due to a very clever use of DOFs: a long, invisible object is attached by a breaking DOF to the propeller. As the propeller rotates, this objects hits the groud, its DOF breaks and this event triggers a little explosion - giving that neat smoke puff on engine start.

Unfortunately, on your version, the DOF does not break so the whole plane flips instead. I've seen this happen in 1.5.1 beta 65 (i think, or was it later?), and MH confirmed this version has a bug with breaking DOFs.

It is possible to edit the Jug in OPS and remove this thing... But I suggest you revert to 1.5 version as it is the online standard. I dunno how you can do that without re-installing SDOE though.

Thanks, Pachy. It'll give me an excuse to play with OPS.

Had a look at the Jug in OPS the other day. What am I looking for? The prop yellow box looks just like a yellow box but no extra bits to remove.
