I have now mastered droping a torpedo between 30 -40 feet at 200/205 mph 10 sec from the target. I have also been trying with little success to use the Dam Buster bomb. Any tips and suggestions? Also, any useful info on using the Tallboy and Grand Slam bombs? Very large water explosions to avoid. Till we meet again. Pogo IP: Logged |

Well glad to hear you mastered that! Im glad people can, LoL! The trick is remembering how to do it so you can when the occasion rises. Now as for the dambuster...... I havent done that for a loooooooong time. I personally lowered the warhead on the Grandslam and the Tallboy as the explosions were WAY too BIG in SDOE. The values maybe correct, but the end result wasnt and thats what counts. IP: Logged |

Sure is a pitty you cant create proper craters in SDOE or GRANDSLAMING would be worth it. Where did you download the Grandslam from? cheers, IP: Logged |

Grandslam tips....er...never drop one at low level.... do not attempt to load on a fighter.... oh yeah... don't stand underneath one if it's dropping! Tallboy and Grandslam bombs were designed for specialised demolition tasks. U-boat pens and such like had some serious concrete protection, and ordinary bombs just didn't do the job. Having seen the U-Boat pens at Bergen, I can see why! Drop from altitutde and don't hang around to sightsee!!!!! IP: Logged |

Hmmm. Pretty sure there are instructions in the readme that comes with the Lanc Special on how to drop all three weapons.Dam Buster: 205-210 mph, 40 ft altitude. Aircraft must be VERY stable, no bobbing up and down. Try using a TINY kick of rudder as you drop it--unfortunately it works a little better if you get it "tumbling" rather than if it drops straight. Good idea to turn away a little after the drop--it can still blow you up if it detonates on water impact. The dam itself will take several hits to breach. Still a lot of tweaking to do. I'm hoping to mod Argon's torpedo for a new Dam Buster, since it simulates the dam bomb almost perfectly, but I couldn't get the torp to reliably explode against the dam--it appears to go "under" it! The Grand Slam and Tallboy are basically just for fun--they have no particularly useful purpose against the targets in the game--except maybe ships Minimum altitude you should try to drop the Tallboy is 12000, and 18000 for the Slammer. IMMEDIATELY turn 90 degrees away (not 180, takes too long!) and dive to at least 300 mph. This should get you out of the blast radius. As mentioned above, the bombs should probably be "de-boomed" a bit, but I just left them as "baby nukes" until we think of something to actually use them against.

Jedi, sometimes the DamBuster bomb also goes under the dam. I wonder what causes this? I THINK it has something to do with low speed as when the torpedo doesnt have enough speed it goes under ships too!IP: Logged |

Hmmm. I was thinking maybe the dam (or the ship) just "sits" on top of the water, and the weapon is bobbing in and out of the water, so it "ducks under" the object?Or maybe the obBodyPts for the dam or ship don't go far enough "down?" Hehe we're WAY out of my league on this discussion ------------------ --jedi-- IP: Logged |

That was my other thought aswell. Only point I see with that is that some of the ships have hulls that go under the water line. Without that, the torpedo wouldnt even work (It doesnt work on the Akagi and a few others that dont have hulls under the water) But bobbing IS an issue as youve said. I had to deal with bobbing when making the torpedo from your dambuster bomb. When there was to much bobbing, the torpedo would sink and not travel asfar... It also proved unstable as the torpedo would turn head over tail ALOT and the tail end would sink and the torpedo would stick straight up in the water. Thus I made a VERY large and VERY flat inertia box for the torpedo. (Open it up in OPS and unhide all. Then click on the Inertia option so you can see the boxes) This made it more stable while "gliding" on the surface of the water. The dambuster bomb is a different story. It NEEDS to bounce. It needs to bounce ALOT. Only problem is keeping a bouncing object stable and on course......IP: Logged |
