Can someone enlighten me?I've started to fly bombing missions a little more deeply for a wee change. I know that Shift 5-8 will feather engines 1-4 and Shift 1-4 will switch engines 1-4 off respectively. I'm a little unclear on engine damage and how best to deal with them. eg. Smoking engine, burning engine.... When is it best to feather/switch off engines? Regards, Pogo

Not sure exactly how this works with the game itself, but if a motor is smoking heavily, it's probably best to shut it down. Feathering should reduce the drag. Shut down and feather in that order. Engine fires are best dealt with by ....er ....bailing out... You can't extinguish a burning engine, and the damage is passed up to the wing which will then fall off or blow up. I have been doing some work on B17 damage modelling, giving more options for this. On the nwe B17 model I am working on, the engine cowl and motor are seperate, and will take damage and ultimately blow up or fall off. The nacelle and wing will not be directly affected. Watch out for fires in the wing tank though!!!! p.s. If feathering does more than this, I would love to know! IP: Logged |

Hmm, extinguish engine fire. How bout this. Instead of adding obSmoketrail to engine damge, create an object, make it a child of the engine. Use onDmg to call an obExec/func that will start a fire on the new object. To extinguish the fire use the DOF / airfoil tirck to break and send another obExec / func to obKillDelay 1 on the object, you could then call another smoke trail for a limited time. IP: Logged |

I've read where a bomber could be put into a dive to put out a fire. Is this fact or fiction and was it ever realy effective? Maybe I have watched to many old WW2 movies. It could be cool in a mission, if possible.IP: Logged |

This could be done easily by using the same method that damages the landing gear if lowered at too great a speed in some planes.IP: Logged |

What's the chance of making the props actually look like they've been feathered once you feather them? Could this be done by unhiding a different prop model to replace the original when the feathering command is passed? That would look pretty cool having the blades turned into the wind and all.Just a thought ------------------ Visit FS:SDOE Online IP: Logged |
