I installed DirectX 8 today, and now whenever I go into a large mission, my texture cache gets corrupt as soon as all the planes merge. I deleted my sdoecache.tex file and thought that fixed it, but it keeps happening. It didn't happen in a 3-way free for all which went on for about 20 minutes. I'm not sure it's DirectX related. It's as if my Voodoo3 3000 is becoming over-heated. I don't know why that would be all of a sudden though. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks! E IP: Logged |

Bad News guys, As far as I know you can't. nce you up upgrade DirectX, you can't go back. The only way that I know of is to re-format your hard drive & re-install Windows [& everything else ] hip63 P.S.- I may have copy of DX7 lying about I'll have to look around.........

Ok after many "Jimmy Rigged" and "Half-Arse implementations" of fucking around with my system (Im surprised it still works! ) I figured out whats causing this!!!!! Its NOT Dx 8!!!!! Its the new damn fucking V3 3000 Drivers!!!! I went back to the 1.4 drivers and all works well now. Oh BTW I did figure out out to uninstall Dx 8 (Too late Zool... I could of used that! But I did figure out how to do it ages ago but I just forgot) but once I figured out that wasnt the problem, I reinstalled it. (Ive uninstalled/reinstalled Dx versions and Voodoo driver versions more than I care to count in these past 3-4 hours)So go get the 1.4 V3 3000 drivers and all will be well for you. :bows down: [This message has been edited by ArgonV (edited 11-19-2000).] IP: Logged |

Thanks Kar, the textures are similar to what you posted although my machine locked up before it got that far!Argon, you are 100% right. It's the voodoo3 drivers and when I went back to a previous version, I went back to the 1.05 drivers that I had forgotten didn't work well before!! Now with the 1.04 drivers, everything seems to be working (knock wood). Thanks bud! E IP: Logged |

Hello, I have just about the same kind of problem : used to run SDOE OK for 18 month, then a few weeks ago had to update my ATI Rage Fury Drivers + DirectX6 to lateste versions (incl DirectX7a), and this is what I get now (first pic how it was, second how it is now) : I reverted to former version of ATI drivers, wich did little good, and upgraded again to DirectX8, same results. fps is not bad, but the colors just make it impossible to play. Any ideas someone please ? I'm desperate ! Tks alot.

Sailor First thing, when you get this type of problem is delete the file called sdoecache.tex. It's in the Fighter Squadron\Media folder. If that doesn't do it, then see if you can go back to the older set of drivers. E IP: Logged |

Ok I had exactly the same problem as Sailor, exactly! What I did was re-install the drivers from the Windows 98 CD. That cleared it up right away.Snake IP: Logged |

How did you do that ? I managed to re-install the original ATI drivers, deleted the sdoecache file, but still no improvement. I think I need to get backto DirectX 6 (or buy myself a Voodoo card). Anyone please knows how to revert a former Direct X version (currently I am using version 8)? BTW I still have the install files for Direct X 7 and 6 in case someone needs then.
