I am having serious problems in trying to run SDOE. It had been on my old
machine, but within the last few days I installed it on another machine with
Win98 - second upgrade (after having gotten rid of my old machine). I also
installed the 1.5 patch after the initial install (new machine of course).
All installations went well, except that I did have problems the first time
with the CD install and had to start over.....sorry, can't remember the
error message....but got it installed after exiting and rebooting my
computer (could not get the set up to run otherwise). I also installed the
plane pack 5.3, with fix, the SDOE Chameleon, the SDOE Controller, and
several other planes and missions. I tired playing the game but either got
completely booted out of it, or got an error message which said that
sdsim.dll had caused a page fault at such and such....sorry I did not get it
copied down, but am not sure that the exact reference is important....if it
is I will get it for you. After having this problem occur, rebooting
several other times....I did this because the file would not open / game
would not start rather until I did. Each time I got the opening vid., and
the start screen. When I tired to do any mission, scramble, test flight,
etc......same thing. Finally, I uninstalled everything, and I do mean
everything. Reinstalled the game and the patch - only.....same result.....I
got the error message about the dll causing a page fault. I have now taken it off again. I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Please help. What gives? Do you need more info?

What video card are you running? What drivers? Check your game setup options screen, what video option/resolution is selected? Try moving your graphic sliders down (the ones in the sim) and see if that has an effect. Don't load anymore patches or addons. Stay with 1.5 until we get this sorted out. The fewer variables the better.

D. Brown,

Once I had a similar problem when I was testing many Videocard settings. Ever That I tried to start a mission or training...CTD.!
I thought that the file sdoecache.tex was been corrupted and this was the problem.
So, make a test: erase it.
SDOE will rebuild it again.

Delete both sdoecache.tex and sdoecache.dir.

Also, reinstall or update your video drivers. Reinstall DirectX. Windows drivers sometimes go stale.

I am operating an ATI RagePro. So far I have done as all have suggested and deleted the sdoe cache files, updated and reinstalled my display drivers and the DirectX files. And have adjusted the display settings for the game - currently at 640 x 800, with minimal detail. Still get the same error message that the sdsim.dll has caused a page fault. Sorry guys, I'm still at a loss. What is even more puzzling is that at one time the game operated, heck I think it even operated on this machine a few days agao when I first set it up (but memeory fails after so many attempts).

I Know this doesnt help much, but I'm having exactly the same problem: my SDOE worked very well for 18 month untill I upgraded to DirectX7 + new ATI drivers !! I also have an ATI Rage Fury, and it's a driver problem : with the latest driver, at first the game was very slow with horrible colors, and after I tried to go back to the old drivers (wich were OK) it refuses to start and I get the same error message as you. I even re-installed Win98 completely !
Sent a problem report to ATI support (http://support.ati.com) and they sent me 2 pages of checks to perform on my system. Starts wich ATI drivers versions and motherboard drivers checks.
I'm only halfway thru them at mom and will let you know if I get to some solution. Can forward you their mail if helps but it's in french ?
Anyway my mail is fmailhos@cybercable.fr in case it helps.
If everything else fails I'm gonna re-format my HD and re-install everythg as it was month ago !
